IFMSA

The International Federation of Medical Students Associations (IFMSA), founded in 1951, is one of the world’s oldest and largest student-run organizations. It represents, connects and engages every day with an inspiring and engaging network of 1.3 million medical students from 130 national members’ organizations in 122 countries around the globe.

IFMSA envisions a world in which all medical students unite for global health and are equipped with the knowledge, skills and values to take on health leadership roles locally and globally. Its mission statement reads: «IFMSA unites medical students worldwide to lead initiatives that impact positively the communities we serve. IFMSA represents the opinions and ideas of future health professionals in the field of global health, and works in collaboration with external partners. IFMSA builds capacity through training, project and exchanges opportunities, while embracing cultural diversity so as to shape a sustainable and healthy future.

IFMSA Programs are centralized streams of activities, which are organized by IFMSA National Member Organizations (NMOs) and IFMSA internationally.  All activities of the IFMSA are linked to one of its six standing committees, which are:

·            Standing Committee on Medical Education (SCOME)

·            Standing Committee on Public Health (SCOPH)

·            Standing Committee on Sexual & Reproductive Health including HIV/AIDS (SCORA)

·            Standing Committee on Human Rights and Peace (SCORP)

·            Standing Committee on Professional Exchange (SCOPE)

·            Standing Committee on Research Exchange (SCORE)

SCOPE and SCORE are responsible for student’s exchanges. They provide an opportunity for students to do internships at the medical institutions all over the world.

Russian national IFMSA organization – National Union of Medical Students was founded in 1989. Currently it comprises 29 local committees functioning in 26 cities of Russia.

IFMSA Programs in Ufa are implemented since 1989. In that time more than 500 students of BSMU took part in professional exchanges. Bashkir State Medical University every year receives foreign students for internships.
