On 13 February the master class “Aorto-femoral bypass grafting with the use of the "Da Vinci” robot-assisted surgical system” was held at BSMU Clinic

Two operations were performed at the master class: aorto-bifemoral bypass surgery and linear aorto-femoral bypass surgery in patients with atherosclerotic damage to the aorta and iliac arteries, one of which had a history of prosthetic aortic and mitral valves in 2012. Taking into account the sever condition because of surgery, robot-assisted interventions are the most effective and gentle.

- The mammarocoronary bypass surgery is planned to introduce in the Clinic in 2018. Robotic technology allows performing operations with greater accuracy through small punctures in the chest wall. In practice, it leads to faster patients’ recovering and significantly reduces the risk of complications. In comparison with the standard coronary artery bypass grafting, patients are able to recover and rehabilitate quicker, they can return to an active lifestyle within 1-2 months after surgery. And the use of autoarterial shunts for this operation gives the opportunity to get rid of the symptoms and complications of ischemic heart disease immediately after surgery and to obtain a positive effect for many years, - said at the opening of the master-class the rector of Bashkir State Medical University, corresponding member of RAS, Valentin Pavlov.

The opening of the master-class was attended by the chief physician of BSMU Clinic, Shamil Bulatov, the chief cardiac surgeon of the Ministry of Healthcare of Bashkortostan, the head of the Hospital Surgery Department at BSMU, Vladimir Plechev, and the head of the Endovascular Diagnosis and Treatment Department of BSMU Clinic, Vladimir Ishmetov.

Nowadays in Russia, the coronary artery bypass grafting operations with the use of the robot are regularly performed only in Acad. E.N. Meshalkin National Medical Research Centre. The Center is the leader in the use of robot-assisted cardiac surgery in the country. The leading surgeons of the Center were invited to the master class:

Pavel Ignatenko – the head of the Cardiac Surgery Department of Vascular Pathology and Hybrid Technologies;

Alexey Arkhipov – the head of the Cardiac Surgery Department of Congenital Heart Diseases;

Artyom Rabtsun – the cardio-vascular surgeon of the Vascular Pathologies and Hybrid Surgery Department.

Thanks to the acquisition of the Da Vinci Surgical System in BSMU Clinic, such operations have become possible for residents of the Republic of Bashkortostan and neighboring regions.
