Summer internship of BSMU students in Sichuan Medical University on the program of academic mobility

From 30 June to 13 July the delegation of BSMU students - Garifullina Nargiza (411А group of the faculty of General Medicine), Izmaylov Albert (501A group of the faculty of General Medicine), Rakhmatullina Juliana (301A group of the faculty of General Medicine), Muratov Emil (401В group of the faculty of General Medicine) had an internship in the summer school at the Research Center of West China hospital of Sichuan Medical University "University Immersion Program of Sichuan University". Sichuan University is a BSMU partner University on the basis of the agreement since 2015. Within the framework of this agreement, the development of academic exchange, joint research for further application in practical classes is carried out.

BSMU students got acquainted with the internal work of the departments during 2 weeks of fruitful training in the largest clinic in China "The International Hospital of Sichuan Province".

At the Surgical department the students attended the operation performed by the well-known robot-assisted surgical system "da Vinci".

At the Neurosurgery department the students were explained the ways to interpret Magnetic resonance imaging of the brain, conducted a detailed differentiation between modes T1, T2, Flair.

Students visited the operation "Cystic-solid volume formation of the parietal-occipital region", where craniotomy was performed by occipital-paramedian access from the right side (tumor removal).

Anesthesiology department

During the lumbar puncture, the students watched as the doctor faced difficulties in finding the necessary landmarks.

After that, the method of two-dimensional echo sonography was applied. Students were explained that this imaging technique can be used to determine the orientation and depth of the spinous processes of the vertebrae, which can give a huge advantage in safely carrying the needle through the skin and subcutaneous tissue in the interosseous ligament, and then through the yellow ligament in the subarachnoid space for further injection of the drug.

Emergency department

Emergency department impressed BSMU students immensely. Here, students saw a vivid picture of systemic lupus erythematosus, i.e. autoimmune disease with a characteristic skin lesion in the form of erythema of the "butterfly" type in the area of the zygomatic bones.

Traditional medicine department

At the Traditional Medicine department the students plunged into the world of traditional Chinese Medicine, visited the classes on acupuncture, moxibustion, vacuum therapy, herbal medicine and even medical Chi Kung exercise.

Pathology department

At the Pathology department of Sichuan Medical University possesses the largest Pathological Museum, where unique pathological findings are collected. Here students noted a large collection of pathological processes of the brain: subarachnoid, intracerebral hematomas, meningiomas, astrocytomas, etc.

Nutrition department
At the Nutrition department the employees both introduced the students to the rules of patients’ nutrition of various diseases of organs and systems and trained to cook such spicy traditional Chinese dishes of Sichuan province as Hot Pot and Kung Pao. 

 

Library

It should be pointed out, that Sichuan Medical University has a rich Library. Thanks to the Library, the students could find answers to their questions

Students also visited the Sichuan Museum, where they learned a lot of useful information about the traditions and culture of China.

Students made a guided tour to the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding.

 

The students returned with a large amount of knowledge. This trip inspired students to study Chinese and for further admission to graduate school in China.
