The first in the Volga Federal district the Robotic Surgery Center was opened in BSMU Clinic

The era of rapid development of technology inevitably affects the medicine. The boundaries between the level of equipment of the capital's medical institutions and clinics in remote regions are erased.

On 23 February 2018, the opening ceremony of the first Robotic Surgery Center in the Volga Federal district was held at the Clinic of Bashkir State Medical University. The opening ceremony was attended by the chief urologist of the Ministry of Healthcare of Russia, Dmitry Pushkar, the head of the International Laparoscopy and Robotic Surgery Training Center of Leipzig University, Jens-Uwe Stolzenburg, the Deputy Minister of Healthcare of the Republic of Bashkortostan, Julia Kofanova, the chief urologist of VFD, the rector of BSMU, Valentin Pavlov, the chief surgeon of State Unitary Enterprise "Medical Center” at the Moscow Mayor and Government Control Affairs, Eduard Gallyamov, and the medical community representatives of the Republic of Bashkortostan and neighboring regions.

- It is not just the opening of a robotic center, it is the opening of a large program for the whole region, which is developing very dynamically and considered to be leading in the country in the field of medical technologies. With the help of such centers, residents of remote regions of our country can receive high - tech assistance not only in the capital of Russia, but also at their residence place, - said Dmitry Pushkar, the chief urologist of the Ministry of Healthcare of Russia.

Robot-assisted surgery is at the forefront of operative medicine. Technical progress, reflected in the improvement of computer technology, digital equipment and robotic instruments allowed us to bring minimally invasive surgery to an entirely new level of visualization and accuracy.

Surgical robot is a rack with four manipulators. An operating surgeon, located behind the remote control console, controls the movements of the camera and manipulators. The increased three-dimensional image of high definition (3D, HD) allows the surgeon to visualize anatomical structures more detailed, which, together with precision instruments with high freedom of movement, provides the most accurate tissue dissection.

- Introduction of new technologies into medical practice is an invariable part of medical progress. However, despite the technological capacity of the robot, the main link in robotic operations is the surgeon, his knowledge and practical experience, - commented the rector of BSMU, corresponding member of RAS, Valentin Pavlov.

As part of the opening of the Center, the head of the International Laparoscopy and Robotic Surgery Training Center of Leipzig University, Jens-Uwe Stolzenburg, and the chief surgeon of State Unitary Enterprise "Medical Center” at the Moscow Mayor and Government Control Affairs, Eduard Gallyamov, held the master classes: "Robotic Radical Prostatectomy" and "Robotic Cystectomy". The operations were carried out in patients with severe stages of cancer, in the treatment of which the robotic technology use gives a high frequency of positive results. Master classes were broadcast on the urological portalwww.uroweb.ru and in the lecture hall of BSMU Clinic for students, residents and doctors.

- BSMU Clinic is one of the leading medical centers of our Republic. Thanks to the use of high-tech care and advanced technologies in their practice, residents of the Republic and neighboring regions can receive high-quality medical care. It is gratifying to note that the newest medical technologies are introduced in practical healthcare of the Republic due to BSMU rector Valentin Pavlov, professors and medical staff of the University and BSMU Clinic, - noted in her welcoming speech the Deputy Minister of Healthcare of the Republic of Bashkortostan, Julia Kofanova.

Vasiliy Dubrovin, the chief urologist of the Republic of Mari El, noted that the opening of the first Robotic Surgery Center of the Volga Federal district in the Republic of Bashkortostan was significant, because Bashkortostan was the center of the society of urologists of VFD, and wished colleagues success in the development of new technology.

Nowadays twenty-five robot-assisted operations have already been done in BSMU Clinic: evisceration pelvic aorto-bifemoral bypass, linear aorto-femoral bypass grafting, plastic vesico-vaginal fistula, colon resection on diverticular disease, robotic Nissen fundoplication and others.
- Today I took part in a big feast for our University. I am very glad that the time has come, when my group mates and me are not searching the job in the capital's clinics, because in our clinics there is the possibilities for medical practice on the latest world level high - tech equipment, - the 6th year student of the faculty of General Medicine, Levon Arzumanyan, shared his impressions about the opening of the Center.
