The first in the Republic nephrectomy surgery to remove a blood clot from the lower Vena cava and atrium was performed in BSMU Clinic

In BSMU Clinic, for the first time in the Republic, a rare due to the complexity and technology surgery - left nephrectomy with the removal of a thrombus from the lower Vena cava and right atrium was held. The team of BSMU Clinic doctors performed the operation: rector of BSMU, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, urologist-oncologist, Valentin N. Pavlov, head of the Oncology Department, Marat Urmantsev, cardiovascular surgeons Ruslan Safin, Marat Kushaev, Salavat Gubaidullin, anesthesiologists-resuscitators Ildar Karimov, Almaz Nurimanshin, Eugeniy Syrchin.
The operation was performed on an elderly man with stage 4 kidney cancer. The age of the patient, the severity of the disease and the risks associated with concomitant diseases complicated the work of the doctors, but the operation was successful and today the patient feels well.
The international students of the Faculty of General Medicine and clinical residents trained at BSMU Clinic were present at the course of the operation.
