BSMU held the English language dictation

BSMU held the English language dictation on Friday 30 November 2018 in the premises of BSMU building №10. The all-Russian dictation on the English language is an educational action designed to draw attention to the issues of literacy and the development of the culture of literate writing in English. One hundred and sixteen BSMU students of all courses and faculties, including Russian - speaking students – 56 people and foreign students – 60 people, attended it. Oleg Travnikov, deputy dean of the faculty of General Medicine made a welcoming speech, mentioning the importance of learning English, especially for medical students. Responsible for the organization and conduct of the dictation was appointed department of Foreign Languages with the Course of Latin. Olga Majorova, head of the department, gave instructions on writing the dictation and read the text.

The dictation was held in the framework of projects selected by the results of the all-Russian competition of youth projects among individuals with the support of the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs (Rosmolodezh). The initiator of the action was Kazan (Volga) Federal University.

It was a great success as international and Russian students showed active participation and performed their best. The students who performed the best among the rest were awarded by electronic certificate to boost their moral for the future.
Dictation has been used in the field of language learning for several years. However, most of the language instructors and methodologists regard this method as useless and out of date. Indeed, it is a teaching technique, which enables teachers to focus on language proficiency of their students. It may both be used as a mode for teaching a specific language phrase or clause and to list syntactic mistakes.
“Dictation" as we all know is the transcription of the spoken text. To check the command of the students on the English language they were given the dictation on the topic about Leo Tolstoy. Keeping in mind to boost their knowledge and to check their skills this program was conducted and it was a huge success. BSMU always giving active students a great huge platform to discover their talents beyond studies, we wish such type of events and competition will be considered actively conducted to encourage students.
