On 25 February the III Indian-Russian Conference on Education, organized by the Embassy of the Republic of India in the Russian Federation, was held at the international information agency "Russia today". The following BSMU representatives attended the conference: Professor Aliya Kayumova, the head of the project office "Education", and Professor Rasul Farshatov, dean of the Department for work with foreign students.

At the conference, the participants discussed the topical issues on cooperation in the educational sphere between the Republic of India and the Russian Federation. The highlight of the III Indian-Russian Conference was the expansion of the horizons of dialogue between educational organizations of Russia and representatives of India from the plane of purely educational cooperation in the field of cooperation in research and training of scientific personnel.

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India to Russia, his Excellency Mr. Bala Venkatesh Varma, opened the conference. He emphasized the common interests and noted the high level of Russian-Indian relations between the leaders of our countries and close cooperation in many areas, including education and science.

Alok Raj, the Minister of Education and Welfare at the Embassy of India, touched upon the main problematic issues in the implementation of educational cooperation between Russia and India in his speech. First of all he drew attention to the difficulties faced by students from India for admission to training and further stay in our country.

The representatives of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, Ministry of Healthcare of the Russian Federation, rectors and representatives of international services of Russian educational institutions, students, representatives of public organizations and business attended the conference.

The conference included the meeting of Mr. Bala Venkatesh Varma, the Indian Ambassador to Russia, with Artyom Tarasenko, the Deputy Director of the Department of medical education and personnel policy in the Ministry of Healthcare of the Russian Federation.

The report of Sh.Shrotriya, the attaché for science and technology Embassy of India in Moscow, about the projects of the VAJRA (the project to conduct cutting-edge collaborative research involving scientists from other countries) and GIAN (global initiative on creation of scientific networks) aroused great interest among the participants.

Nowadays implementation of educational and scientific cooperation for the University is of particular importance, as 407 of the 1120 international students in BSMU are citizens of India.
