The scientific and practical conference of the Volga Federal district “Topical Issues on Coloproctology”, dedicated to the 50th anniversary of Coloproctology service in Bashkortostan, with Chinese and German professors participating

On 18 May the Academy of Sciences of Bashkortostan hosted the scientific and practical conference of the Volga Federal district "Topical Issues on Coloproctology", dedicated to the 50^th anniversary of the Coloproctology service in Bashkortostan, with the participation of professors from China and Germany.

The conference was opened by the chief coloproctologist of the Volga Federal district, the President of the Surgeons Association of the Republic of Bashkortostan, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, head of the Surgery chair with the Course of Endoscopy APEI, Vil M. Timerbulatov:

 - The first scientific and practical conference of the VFD on proctology coincided with the 50^th anniversary of the Coloproctology service in Bashkortostan. In 1968 the first Coloproctology Department was opened at the City hospital №8 under the leadership of Israel Schönberger. Later, the same departments were opened in all main hospitals of the city. The work of departments has always been continuously associated with the Faculty Surgery department with the Course of Coloproctology in BSMU. In 2017, outpatient care was provided to more than 73 thousand residents of the Republic, more than 1,000 patients were operated, and that is more than during previous years. Increased rates of bed-day, the number of operations on the IUU program, reduced rates of postoperative mortality and mortality – that shows the improvement of the disease detection and quality of care, largely due to the coordinated and skilled work of the Coloproctology service of the Republic, - said Vil M. Timerbulatov.

The Vice-rector for Clinical Work of BSMU, Professor Vitaly V. Viktorov, made the welcoming speech:

- During few months in the Republic of Bashkortostan the pilot project on medical examination of the population for the diagnosis of gastrointestinal tract cancer, which will identify the disease at an early stage, is launched - , said Vitaly V. Viktorov.

The conference was attended by the prominent surgeons from Russia and abroad. President of the Coloproctologists Association of Russia, Director of A.N. Ryzhykh State Scientific Coloproctology Centre of the Ministry of Healthcare at the Russian Federation, corresponding member of RAS, Yuri Shelygin, opened the session with the report "Failure of colorectal anastomoses". Professor of the Technology Institute, Karlsruhe (Germany), G.Rachkovski made the presentation "Robotic technologies in surgery". Professor, Vice-Director of the Gastrointestinal Surgery department, Director of the Stomach Cancer Institute in West China hospital of Sichuan University (China), Hu Jiankun, reperesented the report "Results of clinical studies of gastric cancer in China". Professor, leading researcher of the Gastrointestinal Surgery department in West China hospital of Sichuan University (China), Vice-President of the Laparoscopic Surgery Youth Society of China, Yang Kun, held the presentation "Laparoscopic D2 distal gastrectomy with neoadjuvant chemotherapy for local gastric cancer".

At the conference the participants discussed a wide range of issues concerning the organization of the Coloproctology service, General Coloproctology, rehabilitation of stoma patients, the latest surgical treatment methods.

Moreover, at the eve of the conference the Professors from China, Hu Jiankun and Yang Kun, held the workshop "Robotic surgery in the treatment of gastric cancer" at BSMU Clinic,http://bashgmu.ru/en/news/13849/
