Department of Pharmacognosy with a course in Botany and Basic Herbal Medicine is a specialized department of the Faculty of Pharmacy, the main task of which is to train pharmacists.

The Department of Pharmacognosy with a course in botany at the Bashkir State Medical University was organized in 1983 as one of the first special departments of the new, open Faculty of Pharmacy. It was created with the direct participation and guidance of the professor, then associate professor, Tatyana Ivanovna Plekhanova. To organize the work of the department, it was necessary to create methodological complexes of all disciplines, a fund of visual aids, a herbarium and raw materials, formulate a scientific direction of research and organize personnel training.

The first head of the department was Tatyana Ivanovna Plekhanova, who was invited to create the department of botany and pharmacognosy. At that time, she had extensive experience in organizing educational and methodological work and the material and technical base of the pharmacognosy departments at the pharmaceutical faculties at the Khabarovsk and Altai medical institutes. In 1996, she defended her doctoral dissertation in the specialty “Pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmacognosy” on the topic: “Pharmacognosy research on the development of medicinal herbal remedies with anti-inflammatory, wound-healing and anti-allergic effects.” Teaching experience - 43 years, department of pharmacognosy with a course of botany and fundamentals of herbal medicine of the Bashkir State She headed the medical university from 1983 to 2005. The total number of scientific works is 150, monographs - 2, textbooks - 1.

Plekhanova T.I. was a member of the Problem Commission of the Educational and Methodological Directorate for Medical and Pharmaceutical Education of Universities of Russia, a member of the Dissertation Council at the Perm State Pharmaceutical Academy, a member of the KNMS BSMU, took an active part in congresses, conferences, congresses, scientific and methodological conferences on the problems of higher education in pharmaceutical education .

Currently, the department of pharmacognosy is headed by Natalya Vladimirovna Kudashkina, a graduate of the Faculty of Pharmacy of the Belarusian State Medical University. In 2006, she defended her doctoral dissertation in the specialty “Pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmacognosy” on the topic “Theoretical and experimental research on the development of medicines from plants of the flora of Bashkortostan for use in gynecology.” Teaching experience - since 1989. Total number of works - more than 200, monographs - 7. The premises of the department are located on the 3rd floor of building 11. There are classrooms (educational and production modules) specialized in all disciplines, an experimental research laboratory for carrying out UIRS, NIRS, theses, master's theses, a methodological office has been designed with the necessary literature, and conditions have been created for independent extracurricular work of students.
