More than 1,000 operations are performed annually in the 60-bed department. New technologies are being widely introduced in the surgical treatment of patients with pathology of the abdominal organs. Since 1993, more than 9,000 laparoscopic operations have been performed. The operating rooms are equipped with video endosurgical equipment from leading foreign and domestic companies. Currently, more than 70% of planned surgical interventions in the department are performed using a minimally invasive method.

The following minimally invasive surgical interventions are currently performed:

• Laparoscopic and minilaparotomic cholecystectomy for cholelithiasis and chronic cholecystitis, choledocholithiasis complicated by obstructive jaundice using a choledochoscopic stand

• Organ-preserving operations for peptic ulcer of the 12th colon (various types of laparoscopic vagotomy)

The use of new technologies has made it possible to increase surgical activity, bed turnover, reduce the duration of patient treatment, the period of disability, reduce mortality, and improve the cosmetic and social effect of surgical treatment. The clinic carries out a lot of scientific work. Based on the results of research and the introduction of modern, highly effective methods of diagnosis and treatment of surgical patients carried out in the department, 4 doctoral dissertations and 8 candidate dissertations have been defended in the last 3 years alone. Intra-University Olympiad in Surgery 2014.

On October 18, the Intra-University Olympiad in Surgery took place at the Department of Operative Surgery. Sore the innovations were interesting, 60 motivated students - that’s already interesting. Demonstrated good surgical skills and technique. Oddly enough, there were difficulties with knowledge of instruments, although this always seems to be the least difficult competition. Timerbulatov M.V. participated in the jury from the Department of Physics. (intestinal competition), Assoc. Ibatullin A.A. (knot competition), ass. Ibragimov R.K. (vascular competition). Competitions were also conducted by Prof. Sufiyarov I.F. (Department of Surgical Diseases, Ped. and Dentistry Faculties - 13 b-tsa, desmurgy), Associate Professor Strizhkov A.E. (tools). Organization - Department of Operative Surgery headed by Head. department prof. Khidiyatov I.I. The digitization of unnamed teams is a little unclear; for example, team number one won. Although, on the other hand, this makes the competitions absolutely unbiased and objective. On the eve of the Volga Olympiad, the lack of sufficient audience size became obvious.
