Department of Normal Physiology

The Department of Normal Physiology was founded in 1933.

Since 2000 up to the present time the chair has been headed by the former postgraduate student of the chair, now the doctor of medical sciences professor A.F. Kayumova. With the arrival of A.F. Kayumova at the department, a serious educational and methodical work has unfolded, and significantly intensified scientific research on the problems of experimental hematology. The staff of the department regularly update and publish new teaching aids and recommendations for students on individual sections of physiology, including 2 manuals with the grants of the UMO of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation. In 2009, a textbook on normal physiology was published for students of the Faculty of Dentistry, in 2011 - for students of the Faculty of Pharmacy. In 2016, a textbook for students of the specialty "stomatology" was published, in 2017, 2019 - textbooks for students of the specialties "medical business" and "pediatrics".

The department carries out teaching activities in the following specialties (areas of training): medical business, pediatrics, medical and preventive medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, biology, nursing, clinical psychology, medical biochemistry. Methodical developments of the lecture course on normal physiology, physiology with the basics of anatomy, human and animal physiology, medical biochemistry, clinical psychology were created. Working programs for all disciplines and specialties have been revised and newly developed, technical means of teaching have been updated, the display class has been expanded, educational videos on all sections of physiology are widely used in the educational process. Serious attention is paid to the organization of independent work of students. A teaching and research laboratory equipped with modern devices for the study of physiological functions has been created.

For more than 20 years the department has been teaching foreign students of medical, dental and pharmaceutical faculties from 50 different countries in English. Intermediate language textbooks in 2 parts for foreign students of medical and dental faculties have been prepared for publication. Lectures, educational movies, test tasks are regularly updated. Teaching materials in English for all faculties are created. Professors and associate professors of the department actively participate in international educational and methodical conferences in English.

At present 16 teachers work at the department, including: 3 professors, 10 associate professors, 3 assistants.

Scientific work at the department is carried out under the guidance of the head of the department, Professor Aliya Faritovna Kayumova, as well as under the guidance of Professor Valentina Gusmanovna Shamratova. The main directions are:

influence of ecotoxicants on super slow physiological processes in experimental animals and humans;

study of hematopoiesis (erythropoiesis, leukopoiesis) in experiment under toxic effects of polychlorinated biphenyls and sorcery ores;

influence of social and domestic factors on vegetative functions of the organism.

The staff with great respect for the traditions and achievements of different generations of staff of the Department of Normal Physiology, who have given much effort and knowledge to the training of medical personnel.

10.    32.04.01 Public Health (Master's degree) - "Physiology with the basics of human anatomy".

        Teaching of all disciplines at the department is carried out according to the FSES of HE according to the qualification characteristics of specialties and Professional Standards (see "Learning Portal").

Every year the teachers of the department revise the working programs and actualize the working programs for all specialties, change the FOS taking into account the implemented competencies for all disciplines and specialties taught.

For all the specialties taught in electronic and printed forms, the UMMs have been created, consisting of the following documents (see "Learning Portal" (https://edu.bashgmu.ru/)):

- FSES HE;

- qualification characteristics of a specialist;

- basic educational programs (BEP) disciplines;

- curriculum;

- working program of the discipline;

- annotations of the lecture course (methodical development of lectures);

- methodical recommendations for teachers;

- methodical guidelines for students for contact forms of work;

- methodical guidelines for independent contact work;

- methodical recommendations for independent extracurricular work;

- AM (Assessment Materials);

- criteria of point-rating assessment;

- table of provision with educational literature.

The head of the department, Prof. Kayumova A.F. is the head of the Project Department for Education Development of BSMU. During the reporting period she was the head of three projects:

"Medical class in Ufa school";

"Pre-university of BRG named after R. Garipov in Ufa". R. Garipov Ufa and Neftekamsk";

"All-Russian Intramural Olympiad for schoolchildren in chemistry, biology and physics "Vocation-Medicine", qualifying stage - February 2022, final stage - April 2022" (Pr № 51-a from 31.01.22).

         In January 2022, a meeting of the Head of RB R. Khabirov with students of medical classes of Ufa schools (№ 5, 35, 46, 106, 158) of the project "Medical Class in Ufa School" was held on the basis of BSMU, where the students received a lot of useful practical information and positive emotions, which, in turn, contributes to the further development of this project.

In July 2022, Prof. Kayumova A.F. was moderator of the section "Homeostasis and adaptation" of the XIX Symposium "Ecological and physiological problems of adaptation" in Kazan.

Prof. Kayumova A.F. repeatedly spoke in mass media.

For fruitful work Professor Kayumova A.F. was awarded the Certificate of Honor of the Head of the Republic Khabirov R.F..

According to the rector's orders, every year the department undergoes an internal audit - there were no remarks.

Annually, according to the schedule, the teachers of the department undergo professional development on specialty, pedagogy, first aid.

         In connection with the emerged epidemiological situation on Covid 19, the department has developed and introduced distance learning forms (lectures, practical classes, taking tests, consultations and examinations) with the use of e-mail and the program Teams Microsoft.

         Throughout the academic year the department staff members review intra-university and inter-university educational publications, participate in conferences and submit various publications to periodicals on educational and methodical work.

In order to expand international relations and interuniversity interaction in the field of education, within the framework of realization of the program of strategic academic leadership "Priority-2030", in April 2022 at the Department of Normal Physiology there was a joint work with international university-partner West-Kazakhstan Medical University named after Marat Ospanov (Aktobe, Kazakhstan). For the students of BSMU in the online format, G.I. Isaev, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Normal Physiology of NAO "ZKMU named after M.Ospanov", delivered a course of lectures and conducted practical classes.

In May 2022, L.N. Shafieva, Associate Professor of the Department of Normal Physiology of BSMU, also gave a course of lectures and conducted practical classes in the online format for the students of the 2nd year of general medical faculty of NAO "ZKMU named after M.Ospanov, for which she received a letter of thanks.

The exchange of knowledge between the students of the two universities was successful.

At practical classes, in addition to the analysis of theoretical issues and checking the level of knowledge, students watch videos on the topic. Also on 12 practical classes are used, created during the class moulages - macro preparations - isolated heart of a frog, neuromuscular preparation of a frog, Donders model of rabbit lungs, etc. For the sections: neuromuscular physiology, physiology of blood circulation, physiology of respiration, physiology of higher nervous activity, physiology of analyzers the educational equipment of the office of students' research work is used.

         All practical work students formalize in the form of protocols with the analysis of results and conclusions.

         The head of the department, Professor Kayumova A.F. is a co-author of four textbooks on normal physiology for different specialties. These textbooks are actively used in the educational process and are in the library fund of BSMU.

         For carrying out research work with students, the department has:

- research laboratory;

- teaching and research laboratory for students;

- vivarium with experimental animals.

         These laboratories perform the following types of work:

1. blood analysis on a veterinary hematology analyzer.

2. Counting reticulocytes, leukocytes in blood smears, determination of leukoformula.

3. Counting myelokaryocytes, erythroblastic islets in the bone marrow.

4. Biochemical studies of blood serum.

5. Determination of free radical oxidation by chemiluminescence method (the work is carried out jointly with CNIL).

6. Determination of the impact of ecotoxicants on individual behavior of rats in the "open field" test.
