Neurosurgery with the Course of Medical Rehabilitation of the Institute of Additional Professional Training

In September 2014, the Chair of Neurosurgery with the Course of Medical Rehabilitation of the Institute of Additional Professional Training began its work. The Chair was established due to the need of optimizing the educational process in accordance with the Federal State Educational Standard. The Chair is based mainly in the G. Kuvatov Republican clinical hospital. Classes are also held in the Clinic of the Bashkir State Medical University, in the center of manual therapy, in the city medical exercises dispensary, in city clinical hospitals №18, 21, 22, and in the Republican children's clinical hospital.

The Head of the Chair of Neurosurgery with the Course of Medical Rehabilitation of the Institute of Additional Professional Training is a Doctor of Medical Sciences Shamil Safin. He is an honored doctor of the Republic of Bashkortostan, a neurosurgeon of the highest qualification category, the Head of the high-tech neurosurgical medical care center in the Republic of Bashkortostan, the member of the Board of the Association of neurosurgeons of Russia, at the same time he is the Head of the neurosurgical service of the Republic of Bashkortostan. Shamil Safin is also the leading freelance specialist of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Bashkortostan. With his participation, were established such medical institutions as the regional center of neurosurgery, the regional vascular center, the regional trauma center of the Republic of Bashkortostan, the department of neuroresuscitation, the department of restorative medicine and early neurorehabilitation, as well as primary rehabilitation centers in medical institutions of the Republic of Bashkortostan. Shamil Safin consults more than 1500 patients every year. Over the past 3 years, he has performed more than 500 operations of the highest category of complexity on patients with various neurosurgical pathologies. Since 2000, he has been the Head of the course of neurosurgery at the Chair of Neurology with Courses of Neurosurgery and Medical Genetics of the Bashkir State Medical University.

In order to implement the competence approach in the training of doctors the Chair of Neurosurgery with the Course of Medical Rehabilitation introduced simulation technologies into the educational process. These include training on mannequin-simulators and training on biological models. Such trainings are held in the BSMU center of practical skills and in the training center of the Republican clinical hospital. The conditions created allow students, clinical residents and doctors to master modern methods of diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of various nosological groups, as well as engage in research work. The range of scientific research of the Chair include problems of diagnosis, treatment and medical rehabilitation of patients with diseases of therapeutic and surgical profile. The priority scientific research directions of the

Chair are: the development and selection of desirable rehabilitation treatment complexes for patients with various diseases; the study of clinical effectiveness and mechanisms of classical acupuncture, laserpuncture, electropuncture, homeopathic medicines and the development of microacupuncture systems. The results of studies conducted are published in Russian and international scientific and the Higher Attestation Commission peer-reviewed journals. The staff of the Chair participate in international, Russian and national conferences and congresses. The staff of the Chair are highly qualified doctors with high-level theoretical and practical knowledge and professional competence. There are members of qualification, licensing, certification commissions related to the profile of the Chair.
