Department of Childhood Diseases of the Bashkir State Medical University of the Ministry of Healthcare of Russian Federation was created in 1935. Since 1992, the Department of Childhood Diseases has been headed by Esther Isaakovna Etkina, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, “Honored Doctor of the Republic of Bashkortostan.”, full member of the New York Academy of Sciences. Currently, 7 associate professors and 6 assistants work at the Department of Children's Diseases. The department has a complex of educational and methodological documentation. Progressive forms of monitoring students' knowledge are being widely introduced: certification and testing. Students' practical skills are monitored during patient supervision .
The main directions of scientific activity of the Department of Childhood Diseases: studying the problem of immunology of bronchial asthma in children; the state of the endocrine and antioxidant systems of preschool children living in conditions of technogenic pollution; studying the state of microbiocenosis of the large intestine in young children and ways to correct its disorders; clinical and cytogenetic study of chromosomal diseases in children; study of the state of the cardiovascular system and autonomic homeostasis in adolescents with chronic physical overstrain, arterial hypertension and hypotension; the role of intracellular infection in the formation of childhood pathology; optimization of treatment methods for children with intracellular infection; genetic aspects of allergic diseases in children.
Medical and advisory work is carried out on the basis of the children's department of the Clinic of the BSMU, SBI of Healthcare of the Republic of Bashkortostan Children's Clinic No. 2 in Ufa.

The Department of Childhood Diseases trains V-VI year students in the specialty of general medicine, V- VI year students of the Faculty of Medicine from among foreign citizens studying using an intermediary language (English); III-IV year students majoring in dentistry, III-IV year students of the Faculty of Dentistry from among foreign citizens studying using an intermediary language (English); IV year students majoring in medical and preventive care.
The basic discipline of the department for students of all faculties is “Pediatrics”. During the training process, students master the following PC:
- Willingness to collect and analyze the patient’s complaints, his medical history, examination results, laboratory, instrumental, pathological-anatomical and other studies in order to recognize the condition or establish the presence or absence of the disease;
- The ability to determine the patient’s main pathological conditions, symptoms, disease syndromes, nosological forms in accordance with the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, X revision;
- Ability to determine tactics for managing patients with various nosological forms;
- Preparedness to provide medical care for sudden acute diseases, conditions, exacerbation of chronic diseases that are not accompanied by a threat to the patient’s life and do not require emergency medical care.
In the process of studying the discipline "Pediatrics", students supervise patients in the children's department of the BSMU Clinic and draw up an educational medical history. The teaching rooms of the department are decorated thematically according to the nosological forms being studied. The final control of knowledge in the discipline “Pediatrics” is carried out by conducting a transfer exam in the sixth year of the Faculty of General Medicine. At the dental and medical-prophylactic faculties, the final control of knowledge is carried out by conducting a test lesson. Questions on the discipline “Pediatrics” are included in the Final State Certification of graduates of the Faculty of Medicine (see Educational portal).
Teachers of the department take part in supervising the practical training of fourth-year students of the medical, medical-prophylactic and pediatric faculties.
