Phthisiology with APEI course

The department is located on the basis of the Republican Clinical Tuberculosis Dispensary with 840 beds, where dispensary, phthisiotherapeutic, phthisiosurgical, radiological, laboratory units, a children's department and an extrapulmonary tuberculosis department are deployed. The teaching staff includes 2 professors, 3 associate professors, 6 assistants. The department provides training for students of pediatric, medical, medical-preventive, medical and nursing and dental faculties, as well as training of interns, clinical residents, phthisiatricians, therapists, and pediatricians. The main directions of scientific research of the department are: improving organizational forms of combating tuberculosis, developing and studying issues of epidemiology, prevention and treatment of tuberculosis.

The department trains doctors in 4 main specialties: “general medicine”, “pediatrics”, “medical and preventive care” and “dentistry”. About 700 students study at the department every year. Every year, at the IAPE phthisiology course, about 250 medical and pediatric interns, 100 clinical residents of the first year of training and 60 phthisiatricians from the republic improve their qualifications or undergo retraining. Over the past 5 years, the department has trained 49 new TB specialists for medical institutions of the Republic of Belarus.

The department carries out active methodological work aimed at improving the quality of the educational process. Lecture materials and materials for students’ self-study are constantly updated, new test tasks and situational tasks are developed and implemented. Over the past 5 years, the staff of the department have developed and published educational and methodological manuals: “Tuberculosis, pregnancy and motherhood” (2011), “Bronchitis in children” (2011), “Site of tuberculosis infection” (2013); Over 25 educational and methodological articles have been published, including 3 articles in central journals. 7 information letters were published for doctors of the republic. Educational and methodological complexes have been developed for all specialties (see Educational portal).

In connection with the implementation of the Federal State Educational Standard for Higher Education, educational materials for all specialties are being developed and updated.
