The department is located on the basis of the Republican Clinical Tuberculosis Dispensary (RCTB) with 1700 beds, where dispensary, phthisiotherapy, phthisiosurgical, radiological, chil-dren's department and extrapulmonary tuberculosis department, department of anesthesiology and resuscitation, bacteriological and clinical diagnostic laboratories and other auxiliary units are de-ployed. The department provides training for students of pediatric, general medicine, medical-prophylactic and dental faculties, including foreign ones, as well as training for clinical residents, phthisiatricians, therapists, and pediatricians. The main directions of scientific research of the de-partment are: improving organizational forms of combating tuberculosis, developing and studying issues of epidemiology, prevention and treatment of tuberculosis. Dispensary has 2 separate hos-pitals in Ufa (bacillary and abacillary), located at different addresses. Also, in Ufa there are 2 outpatient departments of the State Budgetary Healthcare Institution RCTB. In the Republic of Bashkortostan, the RCTB has 10 branches located in the cities of the republic. The branches have inpatient and outpatient departments.

The department trains doctors in 4 main specialties: “general medicine”, “pediatrics”, “medical and preventive care” and “dentistry”. Every year more than 1000 students study at the department, of which more than 200 are foreign students. Every year, more than 40 clinical residents and 60 phthisiatricians of the republic improve their qualifications or undergo retraining at the IED phthisiology course. Over the past 5 years, the department has trained 75 new TB specialists for medical institutions of the Republic of Bashkortostan.
The department carries out active methodological work aimed at improving the quality of the educational process. Lecture materials and materials for students’ self-study are constantly updated, new test tasks and situational tasks are developed and implemented. Employees of the department develop and publish educational and methodological manuals, information letters, memos, educational and methodological articles, including in central journals.
In connection with the implementation of the Federal State Educational Standard for Higher Education, educational and methodological materials are being developed and updated for all specialties, including for students in an intermediary language (see Educational portal).
