The Neurology, Rehabilitation Medicine and Botulinum Therapy Center

According to the order of the University № 177 from 2017/12/29 on the basis of BSMU Clinic the Neurology, Rehabilitation Medicine and Botulinum Therapy Center started working under the guidance of Professor Akhmadeeva Leyla Rinatovna. This is the division of the Federal level. It unites the work of specialists in various fields. The Center has become the first official structure in the Republic of Bashkortostan, that conducts training of specialists in botulinum toxin therapy and injection of botulinum neuroprotein to treat patients with various muscular dystonias (blepharospasm, spastic Krivoshey etc.), chronic migraines, post-stroke spasticity and other diseases that require the inclusion of this modern method of treatment with a high level of evidence of effectiveness in complex therapy.

The Center accepts patients with indications to receive this expensive treatment, free of charge from any place of Russia. All neurologists of the Center mastered the technique of choosing doses and targets for the botulinum toxin injection, the skills of working with diagnostic devices that improve navigation during injections and the effectiveness of the procedure - ultrasound, neurostimulation and targeted.

The Medical Rehabilitation Department in BSMU Clinic has started to work fully after its reconstruction. Currently the Department mainly focuses on the help to the patients who have suffered from an acute coronary syndrome and operations on endoprosthesis of large joints. Besides the Department is working on the pilot project of the Ministry of Healthcare of the Russian Federation "Development of the Medical Rehabilitation System in Russia". The Department staff undergo serious and long-time training courses in rehabilitation medicine in the best medical and educational institutions of Moscow and other cities of Russia. They do research work too. The Department extensively cooperate both with Russian universities and with international institutions.

This year the University administration supported Professor Akhmadeeva L. R. and her colleagues’ initiative to invite PhD S. Robinson from the Rehabilitation Medicine Department of Washington University (USA) to Bashkir State Medical University. The Professor is expected to conduct series of workshops in March 2018. Professor Akhmadeeva L. R. and her colleagues offer to hold the XIX University Neurological Readings in May 2018 and to invite the world-famous Professor of Neurorehabilitation Derik Wade from Oxford (UK).

The Center continues research work in various areas of neurology and rehabilitation medicine together with the Bashkir State University, Ufa State Aviation Technical University, Bashkir Institute of Physical Culture, etc.

During January 2018, the Center held two master classes on botulinum therapy and it has already received the invitation to perform the master class on botulinum therapy in Tyumen. The Center reported about its activities at the meeting of the rectorate, received a positive assessment and recommendations for further development.

We thank our Teachers and the management of the University, who help the patients to receive highly qualified medical care, and the Center staff and BSMU students have opportunities for regular professional
