At the conference the participants spoke about the achievements of Russian oncologists in the recent years, the opportunities and prospects for the development of modern medicine at the fight against cancer.
During the speech, the Minister noted that in his message, the Russian President Vladimir Putin pointed to the importance of the national program to combat cancer.
"In Oncology, it is very important to diagnose the disease at an early stage. Therefore, among the taken measures, we have resumed screening since 2013, and from 1 January, they will be held every two years. This has already allowed us dramatically increase the early detection rate in our country, which has increased by 15% over the past 4 years, reaching 56% according to 2017", the Minister added. She also said that now it is necessary to move to the single code of cancer for each patient. All national medical centers of the Ministry of Healthcare of the Russian Federation that carry out head functions were mobilized to do this.
The Minister paid special attention to two priority areas that are planned to be developed: "The first direction is nuclear medicine. The first proton center is already functioning in Obninsk, and another large proton center will open in Dimitrovgrad in December. In addition, the country has centers of innovative radiological developments".
The second direction Veronika Skvortsova marked the transition from traditional chemotherapy to personalized, targeted immunotherapy, that is, the formation of a new molecular therapy for the treatment of oncology.
According to the Minister’s speech, nowadays the scientific medical community faces two tasks: the earliest preclinical diagnosis and bioinformatics research.
At the end of her speech, the Minister expressed special gratitude to the Russian Academy of Sciences. "We are one, and the fight against cancer is our joint work," Veronika Skvortsova said.
Leading oncologists of Russia, leaders in their medical field, also attended the conference. Corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, acting Director of N. N. Petrov Oncology NMRI of the Ministry of Healthcare of Russia, Yevgeny Imyanitov, academician of RAS, Director of Tomsk NRMC, head of the Department of tumors of head and neck oncology at Tomsk NRMC, Evgeniy Choynzonov, presented their reports at the conference.
