Minister of Healthcare, Veronika Skvortsova, reported at the general meeting of Russian Academy of Sciences members

In her speech, the Minister noted the importance of consolidating all efforts aimed at the development of science and ensuring an interdepartmental approach, recalling the main task set by the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin – to preserve health and increase the life expectancy of the population, the implementation of which is impossible without scientific progress.

"For the Ministry of Healthcare of Russia, the absolute priority is the innovative development of the industry that is why we pay special attention to the development of medical science and all associated Sciences," the Minister said.

She also emphasized the importance of further improving biomedical technologies in our country.

"We are forming a special direction for the accelerated development of Biomedicine in accordance with the state priorities, which are worked out by the interdepartmental scientific Council under the Ministry of Healthcare of Russia under the leadership of RAS members", – said Veronika Skvortsova.

According to the Minister’s speech, a special role in the development of science is played by the center for strategic planning and management of medical and biological health risks, created by the Ministry of Healthcare of Russia, whose divisions are created in all national research centers.

"We are creating a single system for the development of collegial decisions and administrative support at all stages of the implementation of these decisions, and during the last two years it has allowed to significantly accelerate the innovation chain: from the idea to its practical application," Veronika Skvortsova pointed out.

The Minister highlighted oncology, reproductive technologies, regenerative medicine, robotics, cognitive disorders and control of cognitive functions, neurocomputing interface, biological and chemical safety among the important directions of development of the national medical science.

Veronika Skvortsova also spoke about the key achievements of the national medical science in recent years: "During two years, we have a number of breakthrough achievements and victories: the creation of the world's best vector vaccine against Ebola; the creation of a line of sensors and biodetectors based on different mechanisms, including microfluidic technologies, which were not in our country 4-5 years ago and which allow us to determine pathogenic substances quickly and automatically; the creation of a domestic robot-assisting surgical complex; scientists from Dubna obtained a medical proton beam".

At the end of her speech, the Minister wished Russian Academy of Sciences further successful work and expressed confidence in the continuation of effective cooperation between RAS and the Ministry of Healthcare of Russia.
