On 15 and 21 November BSMU hosted a series of evenings dedicated to the poetry of the 20th century, organized by the Dean's office for Work with International Students and the Russian Language Course. In connection with the huge number of those wishing to make a favorite poem among both Russian and international students, the event was held for 2 days.
The 20th century is one of the most difficult periods in the Russian history. The Russian poetry particularly vividly reflected this period. Immortal poems of Alexander Blok, Pasternak, Esenin, A. Akhmatova, M. Tsvetaeva, Z. Gippius, K. Simonov, V. Vysotsky, B. Okudzhava, N. Zabolotsky, R. Rozhdestvensky, E. Assad, J. Drunina, I. Annensky, E. Evtushenko, I. Brodsky and others were recited that evening. The first-year students also performed favorite songs, which are based on the poems of the 20th century poets ("Call me, call" by R. Rozhdestvensky,"Swept the fire blue..." by S.Yesenin, “Nature has no bad weather" by E. Ryazanov, etc.).
The international students with special love told poems about Russia, about love and separation, about passion and self-denial, about simple human life with its small joys and big tragedies. For them it was an amazing discovery how Russians love and know how to read poetry, and the Russian students were particularly impressed by the recitation of foreign for them Russian poems. The audience was crowded two evenings in a row, there were not enough places, and more than two hundred students came to listen to the 20th century poetry.
Heartfelt reading of poems, touching performance of songs, as well as waltz, which completed the evening, helped to rise above everyday life, to recreate the special atmosphere of a complex historical period, once again to feel the power of love, the bitterness of war and the price of friendship.
