On 26 November 2018, BSMU hosted the Youth Scientific and Practical Forum with international participation “Actual problems of Medical Psychology, Pedagogy, Bioethics and Linguistic Aspects of Medical Activity”, section "Linguistics", which was attended by the international and Russian students of 1-5 years. All of them were united by interest in the issues of contact between Medicine and the Russian language.
The forum was held in the Russian and English languages. Foreign students who made up the main part of the speakers, carefully prepared for their presentations. Teachers were marked by the breadth of their scientific interests as the students conducted a comparative analysis of the stylistic differences between the Russian and English scientific texts; made the study of the abbreviations, euphemisms, eponyms (The place and role of eponyms in medical terminology) and slang in Medicine, especially non-verbal communication (Non-verbal communication as an essential element of Healthcare); presented the binary opposition of "rudeness - politeness" in interpersonal communication; talked on the norms of the Russian language in medical practice, etiquette norms, etc. Some international students were distinguished by the fact that they successfully presented their research in the non-native Russian language and even gave an excellent analysis of the place of Russian literature popular among foreign students. In addition, surveys were conducted among students of different courses and faculties.
The evaluation criteria were the relevance and novelty of the study, the presence of the practical part, the presentation of the work (communication skills) and presentation. The teachers of the Russian language made the jury Lubov Linnik, Marry Petrosyan, Nelya Kuteeva, Maria Vasilyeva, Olga Vasilyeva. Despite the fact that mainly students of the 1-3 courses attended the Forum, the speakers showed a good level of training, well presented their research and successfully answered all the questions asked by the jury and the audience. The latter were so many that all hardly fit in the audience. Many young researchers plan to work on the chosen direction in the future.
All speakers received certificates of participants, and the best of them were awarded with diplomas. The winners are Riya Tyagi (1st place), Bhavna Sharma (2nd place), Vladislav Plechev and Marat Bakeev (2nd place), Kuldip (3rd place) and Svetlana Zotova (3rd place).
Of course, we can note the comprehensive development and education of international students in BSMU, integrating research work with moral, cultural and educational education.
