BSMU delegation visited the Medical University of Graz in the framework of visits to the Austrian universities and clinics

On 29 November 2018, BSMU delegation visited the Medical University of Graz in the framework of visits to universities and clinics in Austria. The delegation consisted of Valentin Pavlov, rector of BSMU, corresponding member of RAS, Professor Shamil Safin, head of the Medical Rehabilitation department with the Courses of Neurosurgery and Acupuncture IAPE, Professor Naufal Zagidullin, head of the International Relations department, Professor Adel Izmailova, associate Professor Azat Bilyalova, head of the Information Technologies department. Earlier, the delegation of the Bashkir State Medical University visited Donauspital Clinic in Vienna and Paracelsus Private Medical University in Salzburg.

The Medical University of Graz is the youngest educational institution in Austria. It was opened in 2004 on the basis of the faculty of Medicine at the University of Graz Karl and Franz. It should be mentioned, that the faculty of Medicine was founded in 1863, and it had a glorious tradition and qualified teaching staff, so there were all the prerequisites for its transformation into a separate educational institution. University students study General Medicine. After the fifth year of study, there is a mandatory qualification exam, which gives the right to choose a specialization in the sixth year and work directly with patients. In addition, the University trains scientific personnel. For example, graduate school of the University prepares future doctors of Sciences. The main specialties of the Medical University of Graz are Cardiology, Physiotherapy, Extreme Medicine and Disease Prevention. Here you can also get a diploma of a dentist.

For BSMU delegates there was an excursion in the new campus of the University, which is one of the up-to-date, high-tech and eco-friendly modern University centers in Europe. Later they met with the leadership of the University – Professor Hellmut Samonigg, rector of the University, and Caroline Schober-Trummler, Vice-rector. At the meeting, the Bashkir State Medical University and the Medical University of Graz made their presentations. Particular attention was paid to the development of international cooperation in each of the universities with a view to cooperation in the future. BSMU delegates held the meeting with professors of profile directions of the University. Valentin Pavlov, rector of the Bashkir State Medical University, corresponding member of RAS, met with Karl Pummer, head of the Urology Clinic, Professor Shamil Safin held the meeting with Michael Mokry, head of the Neurosurgery Clinic. Professor Naufal Zagidullin and Dr. Heiko Matthias Bugger discussed the cooperation in the field of Cardiology, associate Professor Azat Bilyalov met with Andreas Leithner, head of the Orthopedic Surgery Clinic and Vice-rector on Clinical Work. At the meetings, the participants discussed cooperation on scientific, medical work and academic mobility.
