Last week one of the most cheerful traditional Russian holidays was celebrated – Maslenitsa.
Maslenitsa (Pancake week) is an Eastern Slavic religious and folk holiday, celebrated during the last week before Great Lent. The most characteristic food of Maslenitsa is bliny (thin pancakes or crepes)
In Russia it is celebrated by eating bliny (pancakes), snowball fights, sledding and singing.
The week starts with welcoming of “Lady Maslenitsa”.The community builds the Maslenitsa doll out of straw decorated with pieces of rags, and fixed to a pole and is paraded around.
On 6th March 2019 BSMU students visited the program devoted to Pancake week where they participated in the fun games and enjoyed the Singing and dancing and the delicious pancakes with honey.
The students also took part in the competition, which was played in teams, and the winning team received flowers and gifts.
Keeping the books aside the international students enthusiastically were involved in all the games and celebration and even won prizes.
