US doctor conducted a series of workshops at BSMU Clinic

April 2019 was marked in the history of BSMU as a milestone of ten years of fruitful cooperation with the Rehabilitation Medicine department of Washington University (Seattle, USA). During the years of cooperation, bilateral master classes and lectures were held regularly. This time Cynthia Robinson, Ph.D., physical therapist of Washington University, visited BSMU for teaching methods of physical rehabilitation.

The visit was very intense. Six days a week, students, residents, graduate students, teachers of BSMU, as well as interested employees of the BSMU Clinic and other health facilities of the Republic, including Ufa, Sterlitamak, Neftekamsk, intensively studied methods of physical rehabilitation in urgent conditions in neurology and somatic medicine, in the intensive care unit, in pain syndromes, extrapyramidal disorders, and other conditions. Six days they listened to lectures and practiced in departments of BSMU Clinic and BSMU United Center of Simulation-Based Training. Saturday was also devoted to the review of methods used in the USA for physical rehabilitation and education in the USA.

The Center of Neurology, Rehabilitation Medicine and Botulinum Toxin Therapy of BSMU under the guidance of Professor Leyla Akhmadeeva regularly conducts University Neurological Readings and a series of master classes with Dr. S. Robinson, selecting the most relevant and popular topics for training. It should be pointed out that recently her visits have been held twice a year, and Professor Valentin Pavlov, rector of BSMU, corresponding member of RAS, has already invited Dr. S. Robinson to come to the university in September 2019. Prof. L. Akhmadeeva and Dr. S. Robinson identified a number of topics that are planned to be included in the program of the autumn XXII University Neurological Readings in September 2019, part of which will be a continuation of the clinical reviews started in March 2019.

"We are very pleased that we have the honor to work together, because this is the best way to improve our skills and to train our students, residents, graduate students and colleagues and to demonstrate the features of multidisciplinary work in a team of professionals with different specialties. We usually conduct classes with Dr. Robinson on a number of topics. This week one day, for example, I, as a neurologist, showed methods of injections of botulinum toxin in focal dystonia, etc. Robinson, as a physical therapist, showed how she works with these patients after injections," says prof. L. Akhmadeeva.

Multi-disciplinary and the ability of medics to work as a team aimed at achieving very specific success in patients is extremely important. So in March 2019 six employees and students of the University and BSMU Clinic were invited to participate in the national contest for the award "Time to Live", dedicated to post-stroke rehabilitation, and adopted in the work of the multidisciplinary teams in all three stages of medical rehabilitation, demonstrating excellent skills and knowledge. The team of the second stage, where the methodologist of the Medical Rehabilitation department of BSMU Clinic and the colleagues from the Medical Rehabilitation department of Clinical hospital №21 worked together and became the winners! We are sure that the contribution of regular classes with one of the best rehabilitators of the USA Dr S. Robinson and work on team building by Elena Lipatova, associate Professor of the department of Pedagogy and Psychology at BSMU, did work too.

Thanks to the coordinated and "multidisciplinary" work of different departments of the University, the students and faculty have access to the latest knowledge and can receive them directly from the best professionals from different countries, including international telelection, which in the neurological direction has also become a good tradition.

It should be reminded, that on 27-31 May 2019, XXI University Neurological Readings and "Neuroforum" are planned, where doctors from Russia, France, Turkey, Canada, the Netherlands and Norway will make presentations and clinical demonstrations.
