BSMU delegation took part in the 2nd UK-Russia Young Medics Conference at Queen's College, University of Cambridge

From 5 to 7 January, the 2nd UK-Russia Young Medics Conference was held at Queen's College, University of Cambridge. The delegation from BSMU became the second largest one from Russia after Sechenov University. T. I. Bikkuzin, associate Professor of the Ophthalmology department with the Course of IAPE, A.A. Mavlikhanova, associate Professor of the Psychiatry and Addiction with the Course of IAPE, I.A. Mustafina, associate Professor of the Propedeutics of Internal Diseases department, and G.M. Tuguzbaeva, associate Professor of the Orthopedic Dentistry department with the Course of IAPE, represented the University at the Conference.

The Conference program included issues of both Clinical and Fundamental Medicine. Denis V. Butnaru, Vice-rector for Research at Sechenov University, and Steve Jones, Head of medical education at New Castle University, made welcoming words. At the plenary sessions, professors from the UK leading universities shared their experience in organizing research in the field of Medicine with young scientists.

Young medics from the Bashkir State Medical University made the following poster presentations: “Study of plaque morphology characteristics in patients with acute coronary syndrome” (Mustafina I. A.); “Human induced pluripotent stem cells differentiation into corneal endothelial cells” (Bikkuzin T. I.), “PEP06 polypeptide as a potential therapeutic agent for suppressing cluster-driven metastasis of head and neck cancer” (Tuguzbaeva G. M.), “GM1 ganglioside mediate CaM-dependent PDEs attenuate alcohol addiction and neuron injury in mice” (Mavlikhanova A. A.). The reports aroused great interest among both the professors and students of UK and Russian universities.

The UK-Russian Young Medics Association was established last year with the support of Sechenov University and the British Embassy in Moscow. The delegation from BSMU traditionally takes an active part in Conferences organized by the Association (the first UK-Russia Young Medics Conference was held in March 2019 in Moscow).
