Ministry of healthcare of RF: Treatment of coronavirus infection is possible only by prescription and under doctor’s supervision
Due to the spread of information in social media about the alleged positive effect of certain drugs in the treatment of coronavirus infection, the Russian Ministry of healthcare specifies that etiotropic treatment of COVID-19, especially in patients with comorbidities, requires special attention. This also applies to possible drug interactions. There is a wide list of medications that are prohibited or not desirable to take with etiotropic therapy COVID-19, due to the development of side effects, up to fatal outcomes.
A randomized controlled trial demonstrated that monotherapy of infection caused by SARS-CoV-2 with lopinavir+ritonavir did not reduce the duration of hospitalization and did not demonstrate greater effectiveness than standard symptomatic therapy.
The Ministry of healthcare of Russia strongly recommends citizens not to do self-medicate, all antiviral drugs should be taken exclusively as prescribed and under the supervision of a doctor.
