The first tremor treatment with the help of ultrasound in Russia is held in Ufa

In last days, Ufa specialists have launched to treat people with tremor — trembling of the limbs with the help of ultrasound. Now it is possible to help patients suffering from Parkinson's disease, for example, without surgery. It should be noted, that the first operation in Russia was conducted online.

Shamil Safin, head of the Department of Neurosurgery and Medical Rehabilitation of Bashkir State Medical University:

- It is prestigious that we are the first in Russia, but it is not only because of the introduction of this technology. We are the first in the world to perform the operation online with our colleagues from the USA, Israel, and Spain.

Foreign specialists advised the Ufa doctors in live mode online. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, they were not able to attend in person. Doctors monitor the process by using magnetic resonance imaging. Focused ultrasound penetrates the patient's head and locally affects the intracerebral tissues. Therefore, the utmost accuracy is important here.

The operation lasted several hours and was successful.

On the basis of the clinic itself, it is planned to create a training center for training personnel and continue the development of advanced technologies. In the future healthcare specialists are planned to improve their skills and BSMU students will be trained either.
