On May 22, the I. M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University held the Olympiad on Epidemiology. This year the Olympiad is online because of the coronavirus pandemic. Despite of the new format of the event, ten universities did their best to take part in the Olympiad. Bashkir State Medical University was represented by the 5th and 6th -year students of the faculty of Preventive Medicine and Biology - Voykina A., Gabbasov A., Rakhmatullin A., Sukmanova I. The Epidemiology department under the leadership of MD A. M. Mukhametzyanov trained the students.
This year the theme of the Olympiad is Vaccination Today: its achievements, unrealized opportunities and prospects. The participants were offered such difficult tasks as to suggest the tactics of child vaccination in a difficult situation, not to be confused when answering the trickiest questions of the "anti-vaccination specialist", to build your position correctly, acting as an expert. It should be mentioned, that BSMU team coped with the tasks with honor. Regarding the current situation in the world, the COVID-19 issues were included either. The strategy and tactics of vaccination during the Covid-19 pandemic, the problems of creating a vaccine for a new coronavirus infection, the development of indications and the choice of groups for primary vaccination were embodied at the Olympiad.
The expert jury were Ph. D. Alexey Y. Brazhnikov and Ph. D. Olga P. Chernyavskaya, associate professors of the Epidemiology and Evidence-based Medicine department of Sechenov University; MD, Professor Gulshat R. Khasanova, head of the Epidemiology and Evidence-based Medicine department of Kazan State Medical University; PhD Tatyana G. Suranova, Professor of the Hygiene, Epidemiology and Infectious Diseases department of the Academy of postgraduate education of Federal Medical and Biological Agency of Russia. Chair of the jury was Professor Nikolay I. Briko, Director of the F. F. Erisman Institute of Public Health, head of the Epidemiology and Evidence-based Medicine department of Sechenov University, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Participation in the Olympiad is an opportunity to form professional competencies, develop professional thinking, and improve the quality of professional training of specialists in the field of Preventive Medicine.
