On the 17th of October in Bashkir State Medical University one of the founders of the Brain Tumor Foundation of Canada Pamela Del Maestro met with representatives of the Ufa charity organizations. The meeting was held in the eve of the First Russian-Chinese congress of neurosurgeons. Pamela came to the event with her husband, Professor of neuro-oncology of McGill University Rolando Del Maestro.
The meeting was attended by Vice-rector of BSMU on academic affairs A. A. Tsyglin, Professor of the Department of neurology L. R. Akhmadeeva, the head of Bashkir department of the Russian society of oncohematology "Encouraging" R. R. Akhmetshin, head of the Charity Foundation for seriously ill children R. F. Surnacheva, Chairman of the Russian public organization of disabled patients with multiple sclerosis M. N. Wosinska, head of the Charity Foundation "Our children" and coordinator of the program "Treatment of children" I. V. Razdumina , head of the Interregional Public Organization of patients with Fabry disease and other rare diseases "Way of life" M. A. Kuznetsov.
During a meeting Pamela del Maestro shared her personal story how she and her husband founded the Brain Tumor Foundation of Canada 35 years ago and how they started with only one support group for people with brain tumors. Since then, the Foundation has been helping patients across whole Canada, organizing more and more support groups, where people can freely share their experiences with those who suffer the same diseases, and charity events to raise money. To this moment, the Foundation has allocated about $ 8 million for research on brain tumors to perform.
After the story of Pamela Del Maestro the heads of the Ufa charity organizations had a fruitful discussion, which opened up opportunities for their future cooperation with the Brain Tumor Foundation of Canada and Bashkir State Medical University.
