All-Russian Olympiad in Microbiology among students of medical higher educational institutions

On April 23, 2021, the All-Russian Olympiad of Students in Microbiology was held on the basis of Bashkir State Medical University.

Representatives of 11 universities took part in the Olympiad:

5. Academician I. P. Pavlov Ryazan State Medical University (Ryazan) – team Quorum sensing

6. Chelyabinsk State University (Chelyabinsk) – team Meta-organization

7. Bashkir State Medical University (Ufa) – team Especially dangerous students

8. Maikop State Technological University, Medical Institute (Maikop) – team A panacea

9. Mari State University (Yoshkar-Ola) – team Motley Row

10. Stavropol State Medical University (Stavropol) – team Positive genome

11. Medical University "Reaviz" (Samara) – team Reavizus

Totally 55 students took part in the Olympiad (each team has 5 students).

The goals of the Olympiad were the development of professional competencies of students in accordance with the real needs of the industry, training for modern medicine, as well as the development of partnerships between participating universities.

The event was held in five stages in full-time. At all stages of the Olympiad, the level of theoretical knowledge and practical skills of the participants was assessed.

Stage 1: video business card (presentation of teams with an indication of the logo, motto and team names).

Stage 2: How microbes control us entertainment contest.

Stage 3: theoretical competition, which includes the competition of captains (computer testing), the Bacteriologists-theorists and Virologists-theorists competition (solving situational problems).

Stage 4: practical competition (bacteriological methods: identification of a pure culture of microorganisms and a test for antibiotic sensitivity; virological methods: infection of a chicken embryo, methods of indication and identification of viruses).

Stage 5: photo contest (photos of microorganisms grown on the nutrient medium).

Teachers of the Olympiad methodological commission were Prof. M. M. Tuigunov, prof. A. K. Bulgakov, associate professor L. M.Rafikova, associate professor G. K. Davletshina, associate professor R. F. Khusnarizanova, associate professor F. F. Musyrgalina, associate professor Yu. Z. Gabidullin, assistants: G. A. Idiatullina, A. G. Gubaidullin. They developed tasks for all stages of the Olympiad, defined criteria and methods for evaluating Olympiad tasks, organized information support for the Olympiad.

The heads of the teams are teachers of the participating universities. They were included in the jury.

The winners of the Olympiad became:

First prize:

The team “Positive Genome” team of Stavropol State Medical University.

Second prize:

The team “Germbusters” of the M. K. Ammosov North-Eastern Federal University, Medical Institute.

The team “Especially dangerous students” of Bashkir State Medical University.

Third prize:

The team “Hello, microbe” of the Northern State Medical University.

The team “Quorum sensing” team of the Academician I. P. Pavlov Ryazan State Medical University.

The team “Metaorganism” team of Chelyabinsk State University.

The winners are awarded with diplomas depending on the achieved results. The rest of the teams received diplomas in the following categories. Each student participating in the Olympiad received a certificate.

University rectors, heads of departments and team leaders were awarded with letters of thanks.
