In 1989, on February 15, the last Soviet troops left the state of Afghanistan. This is how the 10-year war ended, in which the Soviet Union lost over 15 thousand of its citizens. The exhibition reveals the main stages of the participation of a limited contingent of Soviet troops in the civil war in the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan in the period from 1979 to 1989. Students got acquainted with the exhibits of the National Museum of the Republic of Bashkortostan, the House Museum of Sh.A. Khudaiberdin, personal archives of participants in hostilities – members of the Bashkir Republican branch of the All-Russian Public Organization of Veterans "Combat Brotherhood": letters, photographs; coverage of the main events of the war in the press and official sources, propaganda posters, leaflets, maps of troop dislocations, military household items, samples of uniforms, elements of national clothing of local peoples. By the anniversary date, thematic exhibitions based on museum collections and personal belongings of participants in the fighting in Afghanistan were opened in many museums.
