Summer internship under the academic mobility program at Peking University

From 05.06.2023 to 30.06.2023, a 2-year resident in neurology, Sadykova Elina Rinatovna, completed an internship under the program "A short-term international exchange program student of Clinical Medicine in Peking University Health Science Center" in the Department of Pediatrics and Pediatric Neurology at the First Hospital of Peking University. Peking University has been a partner university of BSMU since 2018. Within the framework of the cooperation agreement between the BSMU of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation and the Scientific Center for Health of Peking University, the development of academic exchange is carried out within the framework of the strategic academic leadership program "Priority-2030".

During 4 weeks of effective exchange of experience in one of the largest clinics in China, Peking University First Hospital, resident Sadykova Elina got acquainted with the internal work of the Department of Pediatrics and Pediatric Neurology. During the internship, together with pediatric neurologist Dr. Chang Singji, the resident attended daily morning operational meetings to analyze clinical cases. In addition, she performed a lumbar puncture under the supervision of a supervising doctor, the doctors of the department demonstrated rare diseases, such as feverishly provoked malignant epileptic encephalopathy syndrome in children (FIRES), MOG-IgG-associated demyelinating diseases, acute necrotizing encephalopathy (ANE), Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, spinal muscular atrophy, idiopathic intracranial hypertension, etc. Dr. Chang Singji explained the basic principles of interpretation of magnetic resonance imaging, electroencephalography, computed tomography, which deepened knowledge in these research methods.

Peking University has the largest medical library in the country, where you can find a huge amount of the latest and up-to-date information. Peking University students also have permanent access to the UpToDate international resource, where medical professionals are provided with up-to-date and evidence-based information on the topic of medicine.

This internship expanded the range of knowledge, both practical and theoretical skills, inspired an even greater study of all the most modern and relevant methods of diagnosis and treatment of children with neurological pathology, showed the importance of learning foreign languages, especially Chinese.
