Intracorporeal implantation of an artificial left ventricle of the heart for a patient with severe heart failure was performed in the clinic of BSMU.
The high-tech operation was performed under the guidance of the best cardiac surgeons:
Gennady Grigorievich Khubulava - chief cardiovascular surgeon of the North-Western District, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences; Arkady Aleksandrovich Dolganov - head of the Department of Vascular Surgery of the BSMU.
In total, the multidisciplinary team included more than 20 people: cardiovascular surgeons and cardiologists, anesthesiologists-resuscitators and perfusionists, specialists in ECMO, doctors of ultrasound and functional diagnostics, surgical nurses and anesthesia nurses of BSMU Clinic.
The principle of operation of the artificial ventricle: the ventricle pump is arranged on the principle of centrifuge and is driven by a system of magnets. It takes blood and bypasses the heart to deliver it to the aorta. This mechanism reduces the risk of blood clots.
Patients with an artificial ventricle lead a normal life, the main thing is to charge the device in time (the charge is enough for 17 hours). With the help of the system, the patient will be able to significantly improve the quality of life.
