The Eye Surgery Center of BSMU received new generation diagnostic devices

The Russian Center for Eye and Plastic Surgery of BSMU received new generation diagnostic devices purchased under the Priority 2030 program.

The Solix Optovue Optical Coherence Tomograph allows diagnostics to be performed quickly, accurately, painlessly and clearly. In certain cases, the device replaces intravenous administration of contrast agent and is also suitable for diagnosing patients, including those with poor gaze fixation. Unlike earlier generations of OCT scanners, Solix Optovue OCT can detect the presence of newly formed vessels in the retina and chorioidea and provides the most accurate layer-by-layer visualization of the eye structures.

- This equipment gives us the opportunity to detect the disease at an early stage. Naturally, this allows us to provide timely medical assistance to the patient. When examining on this device, we can also identify the stages of the disease," said Svetlana Gatiyatullina, head of the diagnostic department of the Russian Center for Eye and Plastic Surgery of BSMU MOH Svetlana Gatiyatullina.

In connection with the purchase of new equipment, the Center has two new rooms for consultation and diagnostics. In the consultation room the work is carried out using an optical biometer LENSTAR LS 900 (Switzerland). The device makes it possible to calculate the parameters of intraocular lens for further cataract surgical treatment on site. In the diagnostics room, thanks to the received equipment, doctors will conduct examinations from primary diagnostics to high-tech methods in one place. Ophthalmologic three-dimensional optical coherence tomography 3D OCT-1 is also installed. With its help, doctors can familiarize themselves with the results of examinations remotely, at their workplaces.

The Center's doctors also started working with Octopus 900 automatic perimeter (Switzerland) and AP-3000 automatic ophthalmic perimeter, Tomey (Japan). The devices allow early detection of such diseases as age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, optic nerve atrophy and many others and provide timely surgical assistance to patients.

- Our center annually receives more than ten thousand patients. This year we approached the figure of 15 thousand operations. Half of the patients are people living outside our republic. We also treat patients from 27 countries of the world. The received modern diagnostic equipment will allow to carry out treatment and diagnostic activities at an even more modern level, which, in general, will improve the quality of ophthalmological care to the population, - said Olga Orenburkina, Director of the Russian Center for Eye and Plastic Surgery of BSMU MOH Olga Orenburkina.
