Report on the International Conference on Ophthalmology "East-West - 2024"

On June 6-7, 2024 the XIV International Conference on Ophthalmology "East-West - 2024" took place in Ufa, organized and held by the Ufa Research Institute of Eye Diseases. In total more than 2000 specialists took part in the conference. More than 500 ophthalmologists were present daily in the conference halls of the Congress Hall "Toratau", and about 1,500 ophthalmologists from more than 30 countries were online. About 100 speakers from 17 countries participated in the conference. Leading specialists from Russia, CIS countries - Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, as well as from far abroad - India, Turkey - participated in the face-to-face format. Ophthalmologists from Great Britain, Germany, Japan, Mexico, Turkey, Tunisia, UAE, Oman, Egypt, Morocco presented their reports online.

The scientific program of the conference included 12 Russian scientific sessions, 4 sessions of foreign ophthalmological societies, a session of young scientists, "live surgery" and satellite symposia. The conference was held in parallel in three halls of the Congress Hall, the total number of reports was 143.

Within the framework of the conference, a solemn meeting dedicated to the 85th anniversary of M.T. Aznabaev, Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Bashkortostan, was held. Director of the Ufa Research Institute of Eye Diseases, Prof. M.M. Bikbov presented a report on the main stages of life path and the most significant scientific achievements of M.T. Aznabaev. Rector of BSMU, academician of RAS V.N. Pavlov, Advisor of the Head of the Republic of Bashkortostan on Public Health, corresponding member of RAS V.M. Timerbulatov, numerous students of Prof. M.T. Aznabaev, guests from Uzbekistan congratulated the jubilee.

None of the audience was left indifferent by "live surgery" - demonstration of exemplary surgeries from the operating rooms of the Ufa Research Institute of Eye Diseases. There were performed cataract surgeries with implantation of Tecnis Synergy IOL (R.M. Bikbulatov, Ufa), Tecnis Eyhance (A.M. Ivanov, Kaluga), Clareon Panoptix Toric (A.O. Shilovskikh, Ekaterinburg). CLEAR lenticular surgery (A.E. Kopylov, Tambov) and vitreoretinal surgery (I.S. Kazaklev, Samara) and D.A. Konyaev (Tambov) were also demonstrated.

At the conference "East-West" the session of the Russian Glaucoma Society was held once again, during which the leading glaucomatologists of the country headed by the President of the Russian Glaucoma Society, Prof. E.A. Egorov and Vice-President, Prof. A.V. Kuroedov presented modern directions of diagnostics and treatment of such a severe eye disease as glaucoma.

A large exhibition of companies-manufacturers of ophthalmologic equipment and medicines was not neglected.

In general, the conference was held in a warm, friendly atmosphere and left only pleasant memories!
