"For us, the Medical University is the flagship of medical education not only for Bashkortostan and the Volga Federal District, but also for the Russian Federation as a whole. It is a University that is developing very actively. Every year we see how the infrastructure and laboratory base of the University develops. This is a great achievement. I thank you, Valentin Nikolaevich, for such a desire to develop the university. I would also like to thank on behalf of the people of the republic our medical workers for the fight against Covid, we remember and do not forget, we always keep in our hearts gratitude for the lives saved. I also want to note the contribution of doctors, employees of BSMU, who treat the wounded in the zone of SMO, take part in the project "Health Trains". I would like to say words of gratitude to the whole staff of the medical university. The opening of the Institute of Fundamental Medicine will give another powerful impetus to the development of science and medical education", the Head of RB Radiy Khabirov.

The new Institute includes advanced laboratories: the Laboratory of Nature-like Materials specializes in the creation of an innovative biomaterial based on spider web silk for the purpose of application in regenerative medicine and tissue engineering. In the lab, scientists are studying the biological and mechanical properties of in-vitro spider silk on human stem cells. The study of spider web fiber structure is promising, as there are many ways to use this material, for example, to make gels for 3D printing. Eight female spiders of the genus Chilobrachuc dyscolus live in the laboratory in terrariums specially equipped for experiments. Every day the laboratory staff examines the filaments of tarantulas brought from Southeast Asia - Vietnam. Much work is being done in the laboratory to identify the best way to sterilize the webs.

The idea to use the web as a biomaterial was brought to the University by the rector of BSMU. Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Professor Valentin Pavlov.

In the future, scientists of the laboratory are preparing to create a wound-healing dressing and suture material using spider web silk. The project is implemented at the university within the framework of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science's program "Priority - 2030", the national project "Science and Universities".

The laboratory of chromatographic and spectral research methods is engaged in the identification of pathology markers such as oncomarker for prostate cancer, markers of cardiovascular pathologies, analysis of the composition and purity of radiopharmaceuticals, as well as conducts quality control of drugs and pharmaceutical substances.

The laboratory of bioengineered test systems for personalized medicine is working on the "organ-on-a-chip" project. It is based on the creation of 3D-biomodels in vitro, imitating human tissues that most accurately recreate complex local biological processes of the human body. In the future, such models can be used for biomedical research and pharmacological testing of drugs, which will potentially reduce the need to use animals in laboratory research and improve the quality of research.

Cell Culture Laboratory - develops innovative cell technologies for use in regenerative medicine, immunology, oncology and will create cellular test systems for personalized diagnostics, therapeutics and preclinical research.

The Bioprinting Laboratory conducts problem-oriented scientific research in the field of bioprinting, tissue engineering, biomaterials science in order to develop and implement theoretical and engineering solutions for regenerative medicine. The main project of the laboratory is the creation of a composite bone-cartilage bioimplant for the replacement of bone-cartilage defects in osteoarthritis and post-traumatic injuries. The uniqueness of this project lies in the combination of cartilage and bone components in a single design. The cartilage and bone components are created using modern 3D printing technologies.

The morphology laboratory has 3 main missions: science, clinical work and education. By staging immunohistochemical reactions, scientists will evaluate the expression of macrophages in and around tumor tissue and which macrophages predominate, M1 or M2. So too is analyzing innate immunity in infectious pathologies such as COVID-19.

Using a Pannoramic 250 scanning microscope, BSMU scientists digitize the material, accumulate it and make markups. As a result, together with clinical data, molecular genetics results, histologic picture, there is an accumulation of databases for artificial intelligence. As a clinical work there is a lifetime diagnostic of material from the clinic of BSMU, first of all it is oncourology. In the educational cluster the whole accumulated practical and scientific layer of knowledge is seen by students, scientific circles participate in the work of the laboratory, seminars for schoolchildren are held. The digital classroom of the morphology laboratory is one of the best in Russia.

As part of the opening of the Institute, an agreement was signed with the Chinese company HUAYI ISOTOPES. The agreement provides for the development of a new strategic project to create a research and production center for nuclear medicine in the Republic of Bashkortostan as part of the implementation of the PRIORITY-2030 program.

It should be noted that the nuclear medicine industry is strictly regulated and has high entry barriers. BSMU has prerequisites for continuous development and gradual creation of production and logistics network to become one of the leaders of industrial nuclear medicine in the Volga and Urals Federal Districts. BSMU has the whole spectrum of concepts in the field of Nuclear Medicine: it is both an educational project and a construction site.
