For the first time, a unique heart operation was performed at the BSMU clinic

For the first time, the BSMU clinic performed a unique and complex heart surgery using the technique of correcting mitral insufficiency. The procedure is performed in patients with coronary disease, infarction, arrhythmia and cardiomyopathy. It is important that the patient's heart failure decreases already on the operating table to the minimum values.

The uniqueness of the surgical intervention is that during the operation, the patient does not cut the chest, but acts using a minimally invasive method - by implanting the MitraClip clip on the mitral valve leaflets. A special clip is delivered to the heart through a catheter inserted into the patient's femoral vein. With this method of correcting mitral insufficiency, the frequency of operational complications exceeds a little more than 1%, and the recovery period is up to 3 days.

"There are patients who cannot undergo open surgery using a heart-lung machine. In these cases, this high-tech method is performed, when clips are applied to the flap when the valves are insufficient. In this case, mitral valve clipping is performed, and from now on, the BSMU Clinic is clipping another, tricuspid valve, "said Alfiya Pushkareva, cardiologist of the cardiovascular surgery department of the BSMU clinic, pre-center of the BSMU hospital therapy department.

By the name of the clip, the operation was called "MitraKlip." In the Republic of Bashkortostan, these operations are performed only at the BSMU Clinic.

Reference: Mitral insufficiency is an acquired heart defect in which there is no complete closure of the mitral valve leaflets during certain phases of heart function. Such a heart defect occurs in various heart diseases (CAD, myocardial infarction, arrhythmia, etc.). The non-closure of the valve flaps or their incomplete closure disrupts the work of the organ, over the years leads to an increase in the size of the heart and to chronic heart failure or aggravates its course.
