BSMU took high positions in the pilot ranking of universities in the BRICS countries
For the first time in October 2024, a pilot rating of universities in the BRICS countries was released. Of the 825 universities shortlisted, 600 universities were selected for the final list, including 161 Russian universities. The ranking includes universities from 10 countries of the commonwealth: Brazil, Egypt, India, Iran, China, the United Arab Emirates, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Ethiopia and South Africa.
Bashkir State Medical University occupied:
- 152nd place among the 600 best universities in the BRICS countries,
- 32nd place among 161 Russian universities,
- 11th place among BRICS medical universities,
- 4th place among 28 medical universities in Russia (after the First Moscow State Medical University named after I.M. Sechenov, the First St. Petersburg State Medical University named after I.P. Pavlov, RNIMU named after N.I. Pirogov),
- 1st place among regional Russian medical universities.
The strategic goal of the university's development is the transformation of the university into an international research university that produces new medical knowledge, technologies, and biomedical products.
Now about 5 thousand foreign students from more than 60 countries of the world study at the University, with more than 80% of foreign students from BRICS countries.
In the ranking of medical universities in the BRICS countries, the University took a high place due to its leading positions in the share of foreign students in the total number of students, the ratio of the university budget to the number of students, and the average normalized citation of scientific articles. In the development program, the main focus of the BSMU of the Ministry of Health of Russia is on the development of fundamental science and the popularization of scientific and medical knowledge among Russian and foreign youth, which, among other things, allows not only to maintain, but also to improve high positions in international ratings.
The university is the market leader in medical education in India, Africa, and the Middle East. Every year, more than 250 graduates receive Russian citizenship and remain in the health care system of our country.
BSMU is a member of the Russian-Chinese Association of Medical Universities (RKAMU). Over 10 years of joint work within the framework of the RKAMU, 55 programs of academic mobility have been implemented for 700 students and young scientists, 19 of our children have already completed the PhD program and 12 are currently participating. We are also developing joint scientific projects - in the piggy bank of BSMU scientists there are 2 joint grants with the Russian Science Foundation and the State Natural Science Foundation of China, more than 200 joint scientific events and, as a result, more than 100 joint articles have been published in highly rated journals.
The University also has close cooperation with the UAE. For several years now, Ufa has been visited by the head of the urology department of the Central Private Clinic in Sharjah, UAE, Dr. Emad Iyad. On the basis of BSMU, the surgeon improves his qualifications and shares his experience with his republican colleagues.
"For me, Russia has always been, is and will be a second homeland. I came here when I was only 17. Studied and developed here. Science and technology are very well developed in the Russian Federation. I always tried to connect professors of the United Arab Emirates and professors of Russia and Bashkiria. We held various conferences and scientific and educational events. And we managed to show that there are good doctors in Russia, and science is developed at the highest level,"says Dr. Emad Iyad.
A medical scientist from the UAE also lectures to BSMU students, conducts master classes and teaches the practical part in the operating room of the BSMU Clinic - medical students observe the intricacies of working online. Such an exchange of experience allows us to master new world methods.
Bashkir State Medical University cooperates in the field of education and science with professors and scientists from India. Every year, the University holds winter and summer schools for foreign students. Invited Indian professors give lectures on anatomy, biochemistry, internal medicine, pharmacology, surgery. Indian scientists are active participants in major scientific conferences and congresses organized by the BSMU of the Ministry of Health of Russia. The head of the Indian Association of Urology, Chairman of Science of the International Society of Urology Rajiv TP commented on the establishment of cooperation with BSMU at the International Congress on Fundamental and Clinical Urology and Oncourology in Ufa:
"We intend to develop academic cooperation with residents, young urologists and faculty of BSMU. We also plan to annually hold joint conferences of the Russian and Indian Society of Urology. We will also have the opportunity to conduct joint research. I am optimistic about the possibility of cooperation with Russia. I would like to note that foreign students of BSMU have a good level of training. And I would say that they are not inferior, but in some ways superior to students at universities in other countries."
