BSMU scientists presented their research at the International Congress of Immunologists in Austria - IUIS 2025

From August 17 to 22, the 19th International Congress on Immunology (IUIS 2025) was held in Vienna (Austria), in which more than 8,000 scientists from around the world took part. The event was chaired by the President of the Congress, Professor of the University of Vienna Rudolf Valenta.

As part of the program, participants at plenary sessions, section and poster reports, as well as roundtables discussed topical issues of allergology, vaccine development, immuno-oncology, studying the memory of B-cells and T-regulatory cells, immune perception of allergens and infectious antigens, the role of the microbiome in the pathogenesis of immunopathology.

Bashkir State Medical University presented a delegation of 7 scientists.

"Currently, BSMU scientists are actively working on scientific projects in the field of immunology, in particular, on the development of new approaches in cancer immunotherapy, as well as the development of new methods for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Participation in such an important scientific event will determine new points of growth. Now BSMU scientists are actively integrated into world science. The results presented at the Congress were obtained as part of the Priority-2030 University development program," the acting Vice-Rector for Scientific and International Activities, Associate Professor Ruslan Ischemgulov said.

Scientists from BSMU presented 8 poster reports, which were listened to with great interest by the participants of the congress. The head of the stem cell laboratory, Le Thu Chang, prepared a report on the potential for the use of CAR-T in renal cell carcinoma. Kadria Enikeeva, head of the laboratory of immunology, in her work reflected the results of scientific work on the sequencing of single cells in prostate cancer and revealed the trajectory of the development of monocytes. Note that the laboratory of immunology is currently conducting research on the tumor microenvironment in prostate cancer in order to develop new diagnostic technologies and a targeted approach based on biomarkers. For the first time in Russia, laboratory researchers sequenced single prostate tumor cells.

The immunological foundations of the formation of prostate cancer as a part of sectional reports were revealed by the assistant of the Department of Urology and Oncology Samuel Akinyemi.

Emil Yamansarov, head of the laboratory of molecular hybrids at BSMU, presented a paper on the study of the selective accumulation of fluorescently labeled betulinic acid conjugate in Kupffer cells. The presented work shows the ability of natural triterpenoid to selectively penetrate and accumulate in tissue-dependent liver macrophages, which indicates their potential as selective targeted delivery ligands in the creation of immunomodulatory agents.

Professor BSMU Rezeda Faizullina at the conference presented the report "Genetic predictors of atopic bronchial asthma in children, the role of FcεRIα and FcεRII," as well as severe clinical variants of allergic diseases associated with anaphylaxis. BSMU medical scientists have proven the association of gene polymorphism with the formation of severe bronchial asthma. The results of these studies will further help justify the appointment of immunobiological therapy to patients.

Professor Rudolf Valenta and Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Karaulov highly appreciated the contribution of scientists from the Bashkir State Medical University of the Ministry of Health of Russia to research carried out jointly with Vienna and Sechenov universities.

The Congress also considered the effect of antibiotics on the treatment of socially significant diseases:

"Recent large-scale data from cohort studies have indicated that antibiotics significantly reduce the efficacy of conventional and innovative targeted anti-cancer therapies across a wide range of nosologies. The knowledge gained will be translated into the clinical practice of BSMU in order to avoid blocking the action of therapeutic anti-cancer drugs with antibiotics," Professor of the Department of Fundamental and Applied Microbiology, Scientific Director of the BSMU Scientific Residency Program, Head of the Department of Innate Immunity and Immunological Tolerance of the Mannheim Institute, Professor Yulia Kzhyshkovska said.

During the visit, the delegation of the Bashkir State Medical University visited the scientific laboratories of the University of Vienna, where preliminary agreements were reached on the joint implementation of a number of scientific projects.
