Innovative breakthrough: 23 BSMU students received grants for their own projects

The Innovation Promotion Fund summed up the results of the VI stage of the "Student Startup" competition as part of the "Platform of University Technological Entrepreneurship" event of the federal project "Technologies."

The winners of the Student Startup competition for 2025 were 2.5 thousand students, residents and graduate students from Russia and 11 other countries, including Egypt, India and Syria. In total, 11.6 thousand applications from 345 universities and 81 constituent entities of the Russian Federation, as well as 31 countries, were received to participate in the VI stage of the Student Startup competition.

Bashkortostan ranks 4th in the country in terms of the number of winners. 158 applications from students of the republic were recognized as winners. Each of them will receive a grant of 1 million rubles for the implementation of their business projects.

In the 2025 competition, students of the Bashkir State Medical University showed the best result in the entire history of the development of the Student Startup project. The winners were 23 students of BSMU, including 5 foreign, who took part in the project for the first time.

"The unique opportunities that grant competitions provide for the implementation of scientific projects in medicine are a good chance for students to become not just a doctor, but a physician-scientist. Today, the main task of world science is how to make a person live long and correctly, with good genetics. It is important that the University has created all the necessary conditions for the implementation of student initiatives: modern scientific laboratories have been created, educational programs are being developed in the areas of medicine of the future," - Valentin Pavlov, the Rector of the University, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences said.

In total, 232 applications were submitted from BSMU students, of which 146 projects passed the first round of the competition. BSMU students from Russia, Zambia, India and Pakistan created their own innovative projects.

Note that this year the number of applications from BSMU students for the competition has grown significantly. So, over the past three years (2022-2024) of the implementation of the Student Startup project, only 14 applications were submitted from BSMU students.

All startups correspond to the priority areas of scientific and technological development of the country - some of the projects are related to the development of digital technologies, the creation of new devices and intelligent production technologies. The most popular directions in the sixth stage of the competition were digital and biotechnology, as well as creative industries.

Students have developed projects to create a mobile application "Healthy Foot" for analyzing foot photos in order to screen flat feet and other foot pathologies in adults, an innovative platform "HealthSphere" that allows users to monitor their health, an intelligent system "AI-PharmAnalytica", which predicts demand for drugs. Also, students created an intellectual platform "PsychoPro" to assess, develop and monitor psychological and cognitive skills with personalized recommendations, an intelligent digital pharmacy platform "MedVostok" to ensure prompt access of the population to drugs, cosmetics and essential items, a SaaS platform for doctors and pharmaceutical companies to analyze the real effects of drugs based on feedback from patients.

Alfred Galyautdinov, 5th year student and tutor of the General Medicine Faculty, activist of the scientific circle of the Department of Internal Diseases and Clinical Psychology of Student Scientific Society BSMU, laboratory assistant researcher at the Laboratory of Additive Technologies of BSMU at the Interuniversity Student Campus, activist of the Student Scientific Society and regional coordinator of the All-Russian public movement "Medical Volunteers" for first aid to the winners of the Competition and plans to implement its own project to develop the Healthy Foot mobile application:

"The essence of the project is to use a neural network model of artificial intelligence to analyze photographs of feet in various projections. This will make it possible to obtain a result on the absence/presence of such a pathology as flat feet with an indication of the degree, valgus/varus deformation, etc. Such an analysis will make it possible to obtain a simple and affordable tool for screening problems in remote FAPs, school offices, fitness centers, etc. The relevance of the development of this topic is based on the fact that foot pathology does not cause pain and problems until it is too late for conservative treatment".

Valentina Egorova, resident, graduate of the Bashkir State Medical University in 2025, shared that she would spend the won million on the development of a SaaS platform for doctors and pharmaceutical companies. The platform will analyze and give the estimated effects of taking drugs based on feedback from patients.

"MediPilot is not just a form of feedback or a substitute for a doctor. This is an intelligent tool that collects data after a medical appointment from a patient. Unlike conventional questionnaires, MediPilot uses its own NLP module, which automatically categorizes responses, finds hidden patterns in complaints, identifies critical signals and converts the received data into structured analytics for a clinic or pharmaceutical company. It is important that unlike telemedicine, we do not interfere with the treatment process - we supplement it and analyze it on the basis of care, while maintaining objectivity".
