Allergists-immunologists at Bashkir State Medical University (BSMU) are conducting promising scientific research in collaboration with Russian and foreign scientists. In recent years, BSMU's allergists-immunologists, in partnership with leading global experts, have achieved impressive results in the diagnosis and treatment of allergic diseases.
October 16th is celebrated as the Day of Allergist-Immunologist in Russia. Over the past ten years, allergists-immunologists in the republic, under the guidance of university doctors and scientists, have made significant progress in treating these conditions using the "gold standard" for allergy diagnosis. The method of molecular component testing for specific immunoglobulin IgE helps to effectively prescribe specific immunotherapy for identified causal allergens (AIT).
"The development of this field has been made possible through fruitful collaboration between our university's scientists and Professor Rudolf Valenta from the Medical University of Vienna. This cooperation began ten years ago with the signing of an agreement. During this time, six schools for physicians on molecular allergology have been conducted", Professor Rezeda Mansafovna Faizullina, an allergist-immunologist, honoured physician, and honoured scientist of the Republic of Bashkortostan, says .
A significant next step in the development of university science was the participation of our scientists in a large-scale study aimed at creating a database for the development of an allergy chip for patients in Russia and studying the spectrum of significant allergenic components. The research was conducted in 2025 at Sechenov University under the guidance of RAS academician Professor Alexander Viktorovich Karaulov and Professor Rudolf Valenta. Currently, scientific developments in the field of molecular immunology and allergology continue in BSMU's laboratories.
Based on fundamental research conducted with the participation of BSMU's allergists-immunologists and a deep study of the etiology of allergies, Russian scientists are currently developing a vaccine for treating patients allergic to cat allergens. Notably, cat allergens are the most common cause of allergies among residents in many regions of central Russia, including our Republic of Bashkortostan. Other significant allergens include birch and wormwood, among others. It is expected that the vaccine will soon be available for clinical practice.
The active scientific work of BSMU's allergists-immunologists is gaining recognition internationally: over the past six months, BSMU allergists-immunologists have presented their research in Vienna at the International Forum on Molecular Immunology and at the I International Congress on Molecular Allergology in Moscow.
The university is actively training specialists in allergology and immunology by conducting both primary retraining for physicians in this field and prepares students in residency and postgraduate programs. Currently, more than 70 doctors in this specialty work in clinics across Bashkortostan. The demand for specialists is high, as the number of patients with allergies tends to increase. Moreover, scientists predict that in the future, every second person on the planet will have an allergic disease.
We congratulate the university's doctors on their professional holiday!
