The 45th Congress of the Société Internationale d'Urologie/Congress of the International Society of Urology was held in Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland. The Congress was attended by leading urologists from the USA, Germany, Italy, Greece, Russia.
Note that only two representatives of the urological community of Russia took part in the event as experts. Among them are the rector of BSMU, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, professor, chief freelance urologist of the Volga Federal District Valentin Pavlov.
Valentin Nikolaevich held a life-surgery master class in the live surgery format. Robotic kidney resection surgery (oncology profile) was performed on a young patient (47 years old) and broadcast to the entire global urological community. The operation of the rector of the Bashkir State Medical University of the Ministry of Health of Russia was moderated by two professors from the UK, a professor from Turkey, Holland, India and two from the United States of America.
"The World Congress of Urology takes place annually in different countries. And we traditionally take part in it. We do not leave the world medical science, the world community is still very interested in our achievements and potential. Confirmation of the high potential of healthcare in the Republic of Bashkortostan and the Bashkir State Medical University is participation in a conference in Scotland, in Edinburgh, where there are only two centers from Russia - we and the Botkin Hospital participated in live surgery".
Such conferences are not just an exchange of scientific knowledge, they are a full-fledged educational process. Doctors of the Bashkir State Medical University of the Ministry of Health of Russia demonstrated their surgical achievements and technological approaches to the treatment of urological and oncourological diseases.
"We taught colleagues from all over the world, more than 15 thousand urologists from 150 countries gather for such conferences. This is a recognition of the achievements of our medical science and health care of the Republic of Bashkortostan," the rector of BSMU, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Professor Valentin Pavlov said.
The head of the oncology department of the BSMU Clinic, Marat Urmantsev, who took part in the robot-assisted operation, shared that the operation was performed with a minimum amount of blood loss, good functional and oncological results, not inferior to any other technique.
"A robotic operation was carried out using the most modern technology, which is recognized worldwide. On the operating table, a patient with an oncological disease is a kidney tumor. We radically removed only the tumor, while preserving the organ," the Head of the Oncology Department of the BSMU Clinic Marat Urmantsev.
It is important that robotic operations allow the patient to recover very quickly. On the day of surgery, such patients are active. The patient who was operated on using these technologies goes home on the second or third day.
Previously open and even more so laparoscopic operations required a high technique. And only expert-level surgeons could afford to perform operations of this complexity.
"With the advent of robotic technologies, the indications for organ-preserving operations have expanded. Such technological implementation has increased the number of operations that allow people to live a full life, despite the fact that oncology has been diagnosed. We share our technologies with the West and it has become a tradition. Due to the fact that we carry out a large number of operations in European and American centers, we are an advanced Clinic," the Head of the Oncology Department of the BSMU Clinic Marat Urmantsev.
