Lectures by world-renowned scientist Jean de la Rosette change the future of medicine at BSMU

As a part of the unique educational project of the Bashkir State Medical University, thanks to which leading world-renowned scientists give lectures and conduct practical classes for students and teachers of the medical university, BSMU once again received within its walls the president of the International Society of Urology, Professor Jean de la Rosette. The professor is a highly rated scientist with a Hirsch index of 120 (a characteristic of a scientist's productivity based on the number and quality of publications, their citation in the world scientific community).

Students again got an exceptional opportunity - to listen to a series of lectures by a world-famous scientist and learn everything about the successful writing of scientific articles in highly rated journals. This collaboration goes far beyond the usual academic visit, emphasizing the strategic importance of direct dialogue between world science leaders and future doctors.

Professor Jean de la Rosette's lectures on the development of the urological direction became a living bridge between fundamental research and their practical application. Students not only learned about the latest discoveries from textbooks, but heard firsthand about the methods that will be included in the standards of treatment tomorrow. This blurs the line between theory and practice, preparing new specialists to work with technologies that are just appearing on the horizon.

"In Bashkortostan, I am attracted by medical science and promising cooperation with the Bashkir State Medical University. Professor, academician Valentin Pavlov is developing strong research opportunities for scientists at the University. The head of our university in Istanbul believes that we need to develop cooperation not only within Turkey, but also with foreign countries, for example, with Russia and China. I believe that we need to create a single platform for the exchange of research and educational experience," Jean de la Rosette says.

By investing in such communication formats, the university invests in the most valuable asset - the intellectual potential of its students and employees: "Meeting a scientist of this caliber is a powerful impetus for our professional and personal growth," students of the Bashkir State Medical University of the Ministry of Health of Russia share.

The professor regularly lectures and conducts master classes at BSMU and when asked how he assesses the potential of our students, Jean de la Rosette shared:

"Comparing the level of training of students in Russia with students in the Netherlands or Turkey, where I work now, I can say that they are about the same. The six-year higher education program in Russia is at a good level, students have a variety of opportunities for internship. In my opinion, the level of education is quite high".

Yet the professor identified two differences:

"First, language. Around the world, scientists, residents communicate in English. For example, when I visit my Chinese colleagues, they are all fluent in English. Among Russian colleagues, I know not so many researchers who speak the language at a sufficient level. Residents need additional motivation to learn English to be able to communicate with colleagues around the world.

Secondly, the unique skills of urologists in Russia are amazing despite the fact that they undergo only two years of training. In other countries, training of a resident urologist takes 5-6 years".

The professor shared that students and young doctors in Ufa pleasantly surprise with their enthusiasm. In his opinion, in other countries, one cannot always expect such a reaction from students and residents.

"In Russia, students are always ready to study. Therefore, after returning to Istanbul, I will try to convey to my students that they should be equal to their Russian colleagues and advise them to come to Russia for exchange," Jean de la Rosette said.

Currently, the development of international academic cooperation and joint research of universities in Russia and foreign countries create a solid platform for international cooperation

"One of the reasons for my visit is the great interest of BSMU Rector Professor Pavlov in the development of research activities. Professor Pavlov is one of the hardest working people I've met. I am ready to cooperate with maximum efficiency in the field of science and the creation of international projects. At the moment, we are considering conducting scientific research in the field of bladder cancer, in the future, possibly prostate cancer. We analyze cancer from multiple angles, including immunology, genetics, and the application of artificial intelligence in diagnosis. I believe that Bashkir State Medical University will become a leading university in this direction."
