Shamil Zarifovich Zagidullin is a prominent representative of the great dynasty of doctors. He was born during the Great Patriotic War on August 14, 1944 in Ufa in a family of doctors. In the future, it was the family who predetermined the professional path of the future doctor of medical sciences.
Shamil Zarifovich's father, Zarif Shakirovich Zagidullin (1904-1982), is one of the founders of the Bashkir State Medical University (BSMU), doctor of medical sciences, professor, for 16 years he headed the department of hospital therapy, was awarded the titles of Honored Doctor of the RSFSR and Honored Scientist of the BASSR, and also awarded two orders "Badge of Honor" and six medals.
Mother, Gaisha Usmanovna Zagidullina (1903-1991), worked as a therapist, holding the positions of head of the department of professional pathology, and later - the therapeutic department in the hospital of the Council of Ministers of the BASSR.
Shamil Zarifovich in 1967 graduated with honors from the medical faculty of the Bashkir Medical Institute with a degree in General Medicine. His scientific career began in 1967-1970 at the graduate school of the Institute of Occupational Health and Occupational Diseases of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR (now the Research Institute of Occupational Medicine of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, Moscow), after which he continued to work as a junior researcher at the Ufa Research Institute of Hygiene and Occupational Diseases (1970-1971).
In 1971, Zagidullin successfully defended his thesis on the topic "Comparative characteristics of the allergenic properties of epoxy compounds and questions of the mechanism of their sensitizing action." His supervisor was Professor Olga Georgievna Alekseeva, head of the laboratory of immunology and allergology.
In 1992, he defended his doctoral dissertation "Epidemiology of diseases of the cardiovascular system and respiratory organs and ways of their prevention among the population of a large industrial city", prepared under the scientific advice of academician RAMS A.G. Chuchalin and professor G.S. Zhukovsky.
Since 1971, Shamil Zarifovich worked and headed the department of propaedeutics of internal diseases of the Bashkir Medical Institute.
Professor Shamil Zarifovich Zagidullin is the founder of a large scientific school covering a wide range of topical problems of medicine: pulmonology, cardiology, gastroenterology, nephrology, medical genetics, allergology and immunology, clinical pharmacology and pharmacoeconomics, physiotherapy, balneology and restorative medicine, as well as the use of mathematical methods in medicine. Under his leadership and with advisory support, 52 candidate and 7 doctoral dissertations were prepared and successfully defended.
As a regional leader, he made a significant contribution to the Russian multicenter projects on the epidemiology of coronary heart disease and COPD, and also participated in international clinical studies. The results of his scientific research formed the basis of republican targeted programs aimed at the prevention and treatment of non-communicable diseases, the introduction of new medical technologies and the development of the sanatorium and resort complex of the region.
For twenty years (1997-2017) Sh.z. Zagidullin served as the chief freelance pulmonologist of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Bashkortostan and for many years headed the Republican Scientific Society of Therapists.
Professor Zagidullin devotes a significant part of his activity to historical research, creating essays on the history of the development of the pulmonological and therapeutic service in Bashkortostan. Particular attention in his works is paid to the role of outstanding scientists, as well as the scientific and practical activities of doctors during the Great Patriotic War.
Professor Zagidullin was a regional leader in many projects and scientific research. He actively collaborated with health authorities, was the chairman of the scientific society of therapists of the Republic of Bashkortostan, and also headed the multidisciplinary city clinical hospital No. 21 in Ufa.
Professor Zagidullin also has great family achievements: Shamil Zarifovich has been living in a happy marriage for many years with Zemfira Faritovna Alimbekova, an ophthalmosurgeon, who is also an honored doctor of the Republic of Bashkortostan. And two children continued the dynasty and also embarked on the path of medical sciences: daughter Aigul Shamilevna Zagidullina, professor of the Department of Ophthalmology at the Bashkir State Medical University of the Ministry of Health of Russia and son Naufal Shamilievich Zagidullin, also a well-known cardiologist, scientist and teacher.
