Head of the Republic of Bashkortostan Radiy Khabirov met with foreign students of BSMU from India
On February 9, in Ufa, the Head of Bashkortostan Radiy Khabirov visited the dormitory of the Bashkir State Medical University — which had been attacked over the previous weekend — and met with Indian students.
As a reminder, six people were injured during the incident: a police officer, four international students, and the attacker himself (who was wounded during his arrest). All sustained stab wounds of varying severity. Five people are currently hospitalized and receiving the necessary medical care.
Radiy Khabirov reviewed the circumstances of the incident, answered students’ questions, and noted that the republic has already begun implementing additional measures to strengthen security at educational institutions.
«I have come to speak with you openly about what happened. It is important for us to understand why this occurred and what needs to be done to ensure that such a thing never happens again. I offer my sincere apologies for this situation. This incident is an isolated one, completely uncharacteristic of our republic. Moreover, I feel sorry for the young man who did this. He lived with his deaf-mute mother and grandmother, attended school, and tried to achieve something — but in the end, he ruined his own life.
We are investigating what caused this and who the vile person is that pushed him to commit this crime,» — the Head of Bashkortostan said. — Starting today, police officers will intensively patrol this area during the evening and night hours. We will continue to provide all necessary assistance to those affected — we will treat them in our sanatoriums. If needed, we will arrange for them to fly home. We will cover all expenses and handle the organization. We have agreed to present state awards to the students who showed courage in repelling the attack.
At the end of the meeting, Radiy Khabirov inspected the classrooms and living quarters, and wished the students success in their studies.
