BSMU and China Scientists Combine Traditions and Innovations in the Treatment of Autoimmune Diseases

In 2024, the Chinese academic journal "Chinese Medicine and Culture" (Impact Factor 0.5, Q2) published an article by employees of our university prof. Yu.O. Novikova (Department of Neurosurgery and Medical Rehabilitation) and Associate Professor. A.P. Hakobyan (Department of Neurology and Neurorehabilitation) "THE USE OF TRADITIONAL CHINESE MEDICINE IN THE TREATMENT OF AUTOIMMUNE DISEASES OF THE NERVOUS SYSTEM" CHINESE MEDICINE IN TREATING AUTOIMMUNE DISEASES OF NERVOUS SYSTEM).

In October 2025, the article was noted as the most popular publication of the journal in 2024.

The journal is dedicated to the issues of traditional Chinese medicine and its interaction with modern medical practice. Attention is paid to the integration of complementary and traditional medicine with official medical practices and the analysis of clinical cases. Traditional Chinese medicine is the backbone of integrative medicine, applied in all areas of medical activity, including as adjuvant and/or preventive therapy of severe progressive pathology of the nervous system.

The article describes the use of traditional Chinese medicine in autoimmune diseases of the nervous system, demonstrates clinical experience in the use of acupuncture, herbal therapy, diets, and exercise. Traditional and complementary medicine is an important and often underestimated healthcare resource in the prevention and treatment of even such a severe pathology as autoimmune diseases of the nervous system.
