Ufa Research Institute of Eye Diseases celebrated its centenary at the International Conference on Ophthalmology "East-West — 2026"

The XVI International Conference on Ophthalmology "East-West - 2026" was held in Ufa, which was organized and conducted by the Ufa Research Institute of Eye Diseases of the Bashkir State Medical University of the Ministry of Health of Russia. This year the institute marks 100 years since its foundation, and the conference was dedicated to this significant date.

The conference was attended by more than 2000 specialists, and more than 1000 people daily in full-time format. The conference was attended by about 200 speakers from 17 countries of the world: leading specialists from Russia, the CIS countries - Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, as well as far abroad - Germany, India, China, Mexico, the Netherlands, UAE, Tunisia, Turkey, Northern Cyprus, France, Japan.

A solemn meeting dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Ufa Research Institute of Eye Diseases was also held, at which the First Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Republic of Bashkortostan U.T. Kilsenbaev, acting Chairman of the State Assembly - Kurultay of the Republic of Bashkortostan S.S. Khusainov, Minister of Health of the Republic of Bashkortostan A.R. Rakhmatullin, President of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic K.K. N. Ramazanov, Vice-Rector for Medical Work, BSMU, Professor A.A. Bakirov.

The scientific program of the conference included 4 plenary sessions, 15 Russian scientific sessions, 11 sessions of foreign ophthalmologists, a session of young scientists, "live surgery" and satellite symposia. The conference was held in parallel in five halls of the Congress Hall, the total number of reports presented was 234.

During the conference, sessions were held on the diagnosis and treatment of patients with glaucoma, corneal pathology, myopia, vitreoretinal pathology, and inflammatory eye diseases. The issues of treatment of children with various types of ophthalmopathology were discussed, as well as new directions - psychoophthalmology and integrative ophthalmology, which consider the organ of vision as part of a single human body, a. the emergence and development of diseases - in conjunction with changes in other organs and systems.

Of great interest were the scientific sessions of foreign ophthalmologists, which were represented by specialists from various clinics in India, the Beijing Institute of Visual Sciences and Translational Eye Research (China), Tianjing Medical University (China), the Republican Scientific and Practical Center for Eye Microsurgery (Uzbekistan), ophthalmologists from Arab countries (UAE, Tunisia) and the CIS. During the meetings, the fundamental and clinical aspects of ophthalmology, the use of artificial intelligence for the diagnosis of eye diseases were discussed. Training course "How to read images of the optic disc" under the guidance of prof. J. Jonas and prof. S. Panda-Jonas allowed the audience to familiarize themselves with step-by-step methods for examining patients and acquire knowledge that can be immediately introduced into clinical practice.

None of the participants left indifferent "live surgery" - a demonstration of demonstration operations from the operating rooms of the Ufa Research Institute of Eye Diseases. Cataract surgery with IOL implantation was performed: K.B. Pershin (Moscow), A.V. Golovin (Moscow), A.O. Shilovskikh (Yekaterinburg), D.V. Gatilov (Pskov), E.P. Basova (Yakutsk), R.B. Shaimov (Chelyabinsk), femtolaser surgery of pterygium (E.L. Usubov (Ufa, UF NII GB), laser vision correction - R.M. Bikbulatov (Ufa) and R.Sh. Sadrutdinov (Novosibirsk). Vitreoretinal surgery for proliferative diabetic retinopathy was presented by V.N. Kazaikin (Yekaterinburg).

Ophthalmic equipment and pharmaceuticals were presented at a large exhibition of manufacturing companies.

The international conference "East-West," dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Ufa Research Institute of Eye Diseases, was held in a warm, friendly atmosphere and left the most pleasant memories. The speeches of leading Russian and foreign specialists, the presentation of advanced developments in ophthalmology, active discussions and live communication gave the guests of the conference inspiration for the development of new projects and will remain in memory for a long time.
