In the Center for Surgery named after A.V. Vishnevsky Ministry of Health of Russia a scientific and practical conference with international participation UROCARE 2026 was held. The conference is timed to the 120th anniversary of the birth of the great surgeon and scientist Alexander Alexandrovich Vishnevsky.
BSMU of the Ministry of Health of Russia was presented by rector, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, professor, Valentin Nikolaevich Pavlov and MD, head of the oncology department of the BSMU clinic, urologist-oncologist Marat Fayazovich Urmantsev.
Specialists in the field of operational urology, oncourology and radiation diagnostics from Russia, the CIS countries and far abroad discussed the future of personalized medicine. The research agenda of the conference brought together master classes, scientific sessions, "live surgery," discussion clubs and expert tables.
Key topics of the conference:
- Surgical treatment of renal cell carcinoma
- Surgical treatment of prostate cancer
- Reconstructive surgery in urology
- Surgical treatment of urothelial cancer
- Anticancer drug therapy in oncourology
- Combat surgical trauma to the genitourinary system
- Urolithiasis.
Rector of the Bashkir State Medical University of the Ministry of Health of Russia, Chief freelance urologist of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation in the Volga Federal District, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Valentin Pavlov took an active and multifaceted part in the conference, acting as a moderator, speaker and leading surgeon.
Valentin Nikolaevich moderated the work of two key discussion platforms. Leading industry experts took part in these sessions together with him:
- Discussion Club "Lower Vena Cava Surgery for Renal Cell Carcinoma"
Joint moderators: Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences A.S. Revishvili, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor of the Russian Academy of Sciences A.A. Gritskevich, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor D.V. Perlin, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor E.I. Veliyev, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor S.A. Rakul, Doctor of Medical Sciences A.V. Klimov, Candidate of Medical Sciences E.S. Malyshenko, Ph.D. N.V. Vorobyov, Ph.D. N.A. Karelskaya.
- Discussion club "Artificial intelligence in urology and oncourology"
Joint moderators: Professor G. Zhu, MD, Professor R.N. Trushkin, Ph.D. I.A. Shaderkin, Ph.D. N.A. Karelskaya.
In the role of speaker, Valentin Pavlov presented reports at two specialized sessions. In his speeches, Marat Urmantsev became his co-author and co-rapporteur:
- "Tumor clot surgery: a pilot series of robot-assisted interventions."
- "Artificial intelligence in surgery: a new approach to assessing the quality of performing robot-assisted radical prostatectomy."
The speakers noted that the development of BSMU scientists in the field of robot-assisted surgery and the use of AI to control the quality of operations is already being implemented in current clinical guidelines.
The culmination of the participation of the BSMU delegation in the conference was the live broadcast of a unique operation from the operating unit of the National Medical Research Center for Surgery named after A.V. Vishnevsky.
The surgical team led by Valentin Pavlov and Marat Urmantsev performed a robot-assisted intervention in real time - radical cystectomy with urine derivation (formation of an orthotopic neobladder), demonstrating to colleagues the highest level of skill and successful use of advanced robot-assisted technologies in clinical practice.
This surgical intervention belongs to the category of the highest complexity. The affected organ is removed from the patient with bladder cancer and immediately, through miniature punctures (thanks to the Da Vinci Xi system), a new artificial bladder is created, which maintains a normal quality of life.
"This is aerobatics in urology," conference participant Marat Urmantsev commented on the operation.
"For two days of the conference, lectures and reports of well-known Russian and foreign experts from leading centers will be presented. An interesting section for operating urologists and oncologists will be 12 live broadcasts of robot-assisted (Da Vinci Si, Xi systems), laparoscopic and endourological operations from the operating unit of our Center. Discussion clubs on the most pressing issues of oncourology will allow developing new approaches in the treatment of patients with malignant neoplasms in the group of high and extremely high surgical risk. I am sure that an active discussion of practical issues of oncourology and urology, the exchange of experience and the use of an interdisciplinary approach will become the basis for new personalized algorithms in the treatment of oncourological and urological patients," ─ General Director of the N.V. Vishnevsky National Medical Research Center of Surgery of the Ministry of Health of Russia, co-chairman of UROCARE 2026, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Amiran Shotaevich Revishvili said.
