Leading urologists from Egypt, Nigeria and South Africa gave a series of lectures for BSMU students

Bashkir State Medical University continues to strengthen its position in the international educational arena. A series of guest lectures was organized for foreign students of the University with the participation of visiting professors from Egypt, Nigeria and the Republic of South Africa.

Leading foreign specialists gave lectures at the Interuniversity Student Campus. Mustafa Said, Professor of the Department of Endourology and Laparoscopy at Alexandria Medical University (Egypt), shared his experience in the field of emergency urology with foreign students. Head of the Department of Urology, urological consultant surgeon, Professor Osereman from the University of Abuja (Nigeria) highlighted his presentations on the components of effective communication in clinical surgery, as well as benign prostatic hyperplasia and approaches to screening, diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer. Head of the Department of Urology at the Academic Hospital of Dr. George Muhari and Professor of the University of Medical Sciences Sefako Makgato (South Africa) Shinga Mutambirwa spoke about the use of AI in medicine, tumors of the urothelium of the bladder and upper urinary tract, as well as infertility in men and andrology. A separate block of lectures was devoted to ethical issues in the work of a doctor - Mabaso Maryanne made a presentation.

A special atmosphere of live dialogue was noted by Professor Mustafa Said, for whom this is not the first visit to Ufa:

"I like Ufa - it is a city with kind people and rich culture. This is not my first time here, and every time I am convinced of this. Today's lecture at the Bashkir State Medical University became a real live dialogue: students asked questions, and I answered them in response - this is active interaction, live communication that distinguishes the Russian academic environment from many others. Yes, there is a language barrier, but the guys try and understand. My advice to young people, those who are just starting the path in science: actively develop and listen to your mentor - and you will succeed. Well done!"

"I love this city and I love this university. Everyone here is very friendly. It is important for me that the university contributes not only to the development of Russia, but also to the whole world. Everyone is involved in a common cause here - it's just wonderful. Since last year, you can see how buildings are being transformed, something new appears. I'm from South Africa. We have excellent medical students, but it seems that they lack the dedication that the guys have here in Russia, and especially in Ufa. The hard work and dedication of local students sincerely admire me. Hard work is good, medicine opens up great opportunities. For me personally, the idea of   partnership is important. I believe that sharing experiences and working together will be a truly important step for our future," Shinga Mutambirwa, a professor from South Africa said.

"I’ve given two lectures, and I want to note that the students welcomed me very warmly. During the lecture, I saw interest in their eyes. In my last visit, I did not have enough time to communicate with students, but today I saw that the guys are deeply immersed in the topic. Most importantly, medicine is an ongoing learning process. Even after they become doctors, these students will never stop studying. They need to  seek new knowledge," Professor Osereman from the University of Abuja (Nigeria) said.

For several years now, Bashkir State Medical University has been a hub for the best global medical practicies. The university consistently serves as an open platform for exchanging experise in the most in-demand areas of modern medicine.

Today, about five thousand foreign students from 64 countries of the world study at the Bashkir State Medical University. Every year, the university organizes major international scientific and educational events with the participation of invited scientists from near and far abroad, which allows students to receive relevant knowledge directly from world experts without leaving the university.

Note that the delegation of the Bashkir State Medical University of the Ministry of Health of Russia, at the invitation of the South African Urological Association, has already visited educational and medical institutions in Cape Town. More recently, Bashkir State Medical University signed a cooperation agreement with the University of Abuja (Nigeria). According to the document, the first intercollegiate exchange of students will take place in the new academic year.
