Ophthalmologists of the Ufa Eye Research Institute participated in the Russian-Chinese Ophthalmological Forum

International cooperation is the main engine of progress in modern medicine. The Ufa Eye Research Institute and Harbin Medical University confirmed this by outlining new, even deeper ways of interaction.

From September 8 to September 20, the 14th Russian-Chinese Ophthalmological Forum was held in China, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Harbin Medical University. The symbolic venue for the event was the Harbin Palace of Friendship. Of particular importance to this event is the fact that it combined two real flagships of ophthalmological science with a century-old history: this year the Ufa Research Institute of Eye Diseases also celebrates its 100th anniversary. This makes the dialogue between institutions not just an exchange of experience, but a meeting of equals, united by a common heritage of scientific achievements and service to medicine.

The conference was attended by leading scientists and doctors from China (Harbin, Shanghai, Beijing, Wenzhou, etc.), Singapore and Russia. Chinese colleagues paid special attention to the Ufa Eye Research Institute. Representatives of Harbin University expressed high interest in expanding the partnership, noting that our Institute is a powerful research center. Chinese scientists highly appreciate the scale of research conducted by Ufa residents and the regular publications of our employees in the most highly rated world medical journals, such as The Lancet, Nature, Ophthalmology, etc.

Within the framework of the business program, topical issues of cataract surgery, corneal pathology, laser correction, eye injuries and pediatric ophthalmology were discussed. At the exhibition of modern high-precision equipment, Professor Jan Hong conducted an excursion for the Russian delegation, presenting advanced developments of Harbin University in the field of artificial intelligence. Chinese scientists have created an automated portable fundus camera, which uses AI to quickly screen not only ophthalmopathologies, but also general comic diseases. The device's algorithms with an accuracy of about 95% make it possible to assess the risks of developing age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, liver and kidney lesions, diabetes mellitus and cognitive impairment.

From the Ufa Eye Research Institute, the forum was attended by:

Yakupova Ellina Maratovna, Head of the Department of Integrative Ophthalmology, with a report on the analysis of systemic disorders in patients with an ophthalmic profile;

Titoyan Karine Khachaturovna, Head of the Department of Corneal and Lens Surgery, who presented the results of the use of corneal collagen crosslinking for keratoconus in pediatric practice.

The dialogue between our countries is sustainable and mutually beneficial. Recall that the delegation of Harbin Medical University this year took an active part in the international conference on ophthalmology "East-West," which the Ufa Eye Research Institute annually holds in Ufa.

Based on this solid foundation, the parties plan to launch joint research projects, exchange young specialists and integrate advanced diagnostic and treatment protocols.

The exchange of experience between Russian and Chinese colleagues is direct access to breakthrough technologies and joint work on global challenges. Such a partnership of two hundred-year-old scientific schools is a real and significant contribution to preserving the vision of patients in the two countries.
