BSMU, a resident of the interuniversity campus, expands the geography of partnerships on the sidelines of the Russia-Africa summit

On October 28-29, Moscow is hosting the third summit and the Russia-Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum. Representatives of 48 African countries arrived at the forum, including 22 at the level of heads of state.

The Bashkir State Medical University is represented by a delegation consisting of the head of the department for international and congress activities Ruslan Abdrakhimov, dean for work with foreign students Ildar Lutfarakhmanov and assistant of the department of urology and oncology Akinyemi Olalekan Samuel.

Participation in the summit is a logical continuation of the BSMU course on the integrated development of Russian-African relations and as part of the implementation of the initiatives of the Decade of Science and Technology. Today, 245 students from 25 African countries study at the university, and earlier the university signed a cooperation agreement with the University of Nigeria (the largest state in Africa by population https://bashgmu.ru/news/89148/)

On the sidelines of the forum, the BSMU delegation held talks with the Minister of Health of Zanzibar Nassor Ahmed Mazrui - agreements were reached on the development of cooperation in the field of science, education and training of doctors.

The foundation has been laid for a strategic partnership with Egypt, Tunisia, Congo and Guinea: negotiations are just starting, but the first joint steps have already been outlined. Partnership negotiations were held with Huda Nefzaoui, Director General for Economic, Financial and Social Affairs under the Administration of the Head of Government of Tunisia; Dr. Mohamed Sami Hamed, Deputy Executive Director, Egypt Healthcare Authority; Dr. Samuel Roger Kamba Mulamba, Minister of Public Health, Hygiene and Welfare of the Democratic Republic of the Congo; and Mohamed Saar Traore, Director General of the Applied Biology Research Institute of Guinea (IRBAG).

"Strengthening international partnerships is always an opportunity for future doctors to become familiar with different clinical approaches and health systems. I am sure that joint educational initiatives will become a new stage in the development of international activities of BSMU and strengthen its position as one of the leading centers of medical education open for partnership with African countries," Rector of the BSMU of the Ministry of Health of Russia Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Professor Valentin Pavlov.

A separate track of the forum is the youth agenda: the expansion of professional contacts and the participation of young specialists in international projects were discussed.

The forum is actively discussing the expansion of educational opportunities for African students in Russia, the development of branches of Russian universities on the continent and the creation of joint educational programs: https://summitafrica.ru/news/rossija-i-strany-afriki-obsudili-rasshirenie-sotrudnichestva-v-podgotovke-kadrov/?utm_referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fsummitafrica.ru%2F

Konstantin Mogilevsky, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, spoke about the directions of cooperation within the framework of the session "Vectors of Development of Educational Partnership between Russia and Africa." According to Konstantin Mogilevsky, Russian universities train specialists to work in African states. Russian companies operating on the continent are also involved in this: they help select and accompany students who, after training, return to their homeland.

"We are training specialists for African states. We do not get from the African continent, like a vacuum cleaner, the best minds in order to leave them here - we teach them here and offer them to return to their homeland. That is, this is not an instrument for the development of our economy for us, but an element of our friendly relations with foreign states, in particular African ones," the deputy minister said.

* The main goal of the summit is to expand trade, economic, scientific, technical and humanitarian cooperation. Following the results, it is planned to adopt a joint declaration and a new partnership action plan for the medium term. The scale of the event is impressive: more than 3,500 participants from 74 states gathered under the main theme of the forum - "Together we develop mutually beneficial cooperation and the potential of each country in Africa".
