Bashkir State Medical University is preparing to master the next stage of working with personalized mRNA medicine - their production at its own site. To do this, on October 20, 2026, BSMU and Gamaleya Center of the Ministry of Health of Russia signed an agreement of intent in Ufa.
The document develops the cooperation that has already begun. Previously, the university received the rights to use the software and diagnostic method. According to the scientific director of the Gamaleya Center, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Ginzburg, BSMU has mastered the diagnostic technology and can independently receive and analyze the genetic data necessary for the preparation of personalized anticancer vaccines currently in melanoma, but in the future the line will be expanded. Now partners are preparing the conditions for the transfer of technology for the manufacture of mRNA-based medicine.
Such anticancer vaccines are created individually for each patient. First, experts compare the genetic information of healthy and tumor cells, then determine the targets against which it is necessary to direct the immune response. Based on these data, a medicine is developed for a specific person. Therefore, mastering diagnostics and subsequent transfer of manufacturing technology are related parts of one job.
As follows from the document, the parties intend to conclude a license agreement on the provision of BSMU rights to the manufacture and use of individualized biotechnological medicine based on mRNA. The university will have to prepare the necessary infrastructure and obtain the required permits.
The agreement was signed by the director of the Gamaleya Center, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Denis Logunov and the rector of the Bashkir State Medical University, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Valentin Pavlov. The signing took place within the framework of the V meeting of the Scientific and Technical Council of the Scientific and Technological Center for the Development of mRNA Technologies - the mRNA Consortium.
"Today we signed an agreement with the Gamaleya Institute on the transfer of technologies for the production of these types of medicine on the basis of our university. We were allowed to become one of the sites in the Russian Federation. We identified four patients for personalized cancer vaccine therapy with one of the most severe skin malignancies, melanoma. These are quite young people aged 40 to 55 years. We hope that this year these first patients will receive an individual vaccine," Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Valentin Pavlov commented.
